Incredible vocal performance is Happy Mistake. Loud vocal performance is Vanish Into You (Chorus) - the verses are solid, though.

Happy Mistake is *also* an incredible vocal performance, correct!

Would you feel the same way if it started at 0:13 though?

I genuinely feel like that would improve the song

(even though I already think it's one of her best)

Probably not, but then again... I just REALLY don't like the chorus :traumatica:

Daenerys of the House Targaryen, the First of Her Name, The Unburnt, Queen of the Andals, the Rhoynar and the First Men, Queen of Meereen

I'm glad you died in the last season :Cautious:

Honestly, a lot of it comes from the element of the fanbase that only listens to a very very specific format of mainstream pop girl music.

Gaga taking risk always impacts them because they want Gaga to be a big chart name rather than a big artist.

They want all of the bragging rights of Gaga being “experimental” or “versatile” without her ever actually incorporating that into her music in any meaningful way. Annoying as hell, tbh.

Vanish Into You is one of the worst songs on the album. It starts off loud and abrasive and stays completely one-note until the end when she finally stops screeching throughout the chorus.

Delete this DISCUSTING take :excuseu:

Yeah, I find it way more enjoyable as a Gaga fan knowing and loving the music she's very referential of.

Kind of feel bad for fans that don't have that same enjoyment factor.

Poltergeist

The Beast is criminally underrated

The snippet of Shadow Of A Man felt way more exciting than the whole song

Don't Call Tonight isn't actually a filler, took me quite some time to understand that

Disease is her best lead single, idc about the numbers, sonically it smashes all the rest

I've been getting messages from my deep waters

-CSTH and BOG are fantastic, top tier in the album.  If you don't like Blade of Grass, I do not know what to say to you. You're not gonna make it.

-DWAS absolutely does not feel tagged onto the album. Its a perfect conclusion to the themes that Gaga talked about in the rest of the album.

-The aesthetic of this album could be so much more interesting. It currently feels like such a safe and advertiser friendly "dark" era.  It feels like Gaga regressing back to what is safe. Ik Gaga isn't as bodacious in her public image as she used to be but I don't care, get weird with the aesthetics here! Make Gaga scary and weird again! This is not a criticism of the tracks btw, which I consider to be some of her best by far.

-That dead dance MV was ROUGH. MV's are not for Burton, clearly.

-Kill for Love is pretty good!

It's her best album :ally:

Not my favorite :huntyga:

But her best :ally:

This is a really good way to describe that situation! It describes my Chromatica vs The Fame situation (on a different scale). I think The Fame is her actual worst album, but I like Chromatica the least.

Anyway, my unpopular opinion about Mayhem:

Don’t Call Tonight is top half

Garden of Eden is just good, not great.

Can’t Stop The High is better than Perfect Celebrity

Zombieboy straddles a brilliant balance of darkness and brightness, and it’s a complete waste for it not to have gotten everything TDD has and more.

TDD is inferior the everything else on the album, bonuses included.

- Blade Of Grass, is really boring

Is this an unpopular take? :laughga:

as for mine:

- the tracklist is seemingly perfect from what she made bc each new thing that comes out from the bonus tracks to TDD is of lesser quality than the original album

- disease is saved by its production and her vocals. Very fine lyrics imo

- shadow of a man is bottom tier and only ranks top bc some don’t listen to Michael Jackson so didn’t know his sound

- through zombieboy is no skips at all

- abracadabra is the star single but garden of Eden and VIY were obvious ones. I’m shocked they chose disease

- love drug and DCT are not top tier standouts but they are exemplary album tracks that fill the album well

- HBDYWM could never in a million years be sung by Taylor but Gaga is good at making you think so

- it’s her best all around pop album aside from TFM (in terms of pop appeal) and is the pop comeback they wanted chromatica to be but she wasn’t up for it at the time. Not my fav album of hers but best all around in terms of mass appeal

Why would you think a lack of familiarity with MJ would be why people would like SOAM? But completely agreed about HBDUWM. Gaga’s vocals on that song are stellar. Very stealthily impressive. She makes the song sound easier to sing than it actually is.

Disease as the lead single was Gaga's decision but she was also very excited for Abracadabra as the 2nd. She made the best picks in my opinion. I think it was a ballsy choice and one of her best leads ever. Not something that'd have been in the Top 10 Billboard but then again you see Taylor Swift and Morgan Wallen there. Of course Disease was not going to be a radio hit.

Bc to me it’s nearly an MJ rip off which kinda dulled its appeal to me (I think black jesus synthesized the inspo better) so imo it’s a song that you like bc it *is* good but it’s less good ig when you know a whole discography of it hahaha but I’m willing to have that unpopular opinion

yeah for being the cutesy song HBDYWM is legitimately one of the harder ones on the album. She’s uuuup there
