It didn't need the extra vocals in the chorus spoiling the synths. Both tracks have a great bassline. Zombieboy is just perfectly executed in everyway: the instrumental arrangements (that groovy bass alone and those funky guitars!), the production, the vocals, that bridge... Chef's kiss. The bridge is the only change that I like, but even that wasn’t necessary. The borderline goofy-sounding additional vocals in the chorus may be more “ARTPOP” (which is the only reason I can imagine why they were added) but they take all the subtle sexual mysterious vibe out of the song and largely castrate it. Zombieboy wins. It’s the definition of a song I didn’t know I needed til I got it. My third most played from Mayhem after Debra herself and of course Vanish Into You. IMO the new bridge is superior and the the call and response in the chorus is sexy and catchy as hell 🤷♂️ I feel the same way about MANiCURE, tbh. I think the vocal takes on the studio version are better, I don’t *hate* that the original post-chorus is the bridge, and honestly, my biggest gripe is the mixing.
