elijahfan 26,772
She was the last of that generation of French icons... Truly the end of an era. She wasn't perfect, especially towards the end of her life, but her carefree and dgaf attitude have inspired generations of women, especially at a time when it seemed you were worthless unless married to a man. She sacrificed her career when it was at its peak to dedicate the rest of her life protecting animals - she truly was one of a kind. 2

Leography 272
An icon of her times for sure, but she spent the last years of her life promoting racism, homophobia and getting cozy with the French far right party. She might have been beautiful but her words and actions were plain ugly in the end. Good riddance. 3 1

Yeah, I get the impact she had earlier on, but she took some decidedly anti-feminist stances later in her career (trivialized the MeToo movement, insinuated that women who were sexually assaulted by men in the industry were “teases” and essentially asked for it). I'm a big French cinema aficionado, and she was so actively awful and HATEFUL in her later years that it undid any goodwill for me that was accrued in her career. It's very similar to how I felt when Alain Delon died. Edited 13 hours ago by timdrake
