RAMROD 117,252
You may not have heard of orthorexia, but you’ve probably seen it. It’s an eating disorder that’s characterized as an obsession with only consuming “healthy” foods—and it’s on the rise, says Sadi Fox, PhD, a licensed psychotherapist who specializes in eating disorders. We all have that friend who talks a little too much about things like “clean eating,” or that random food group they’re entirely avoiding in pursuit of better health. Think: carbs, sugar, gluten (provided they don’t have an allergy). The problem? Orthorexia can result in nutritional deficiencies, mental health challenges, and social isolation. It can also be a “slippery slope” for other disordered behaviors, Fox says. https://www.womenshealthmag.com/health/a69757847/orthorexia-eating-disorder/ (ノ◕ヮ◕)ノ✧*:・゚ ᶠʳᵒⁿᵗ ᵗᵒʷᵃʳᵈ ᵉⁿᵉᵐʸ (*´艸`*) ♡♡♡

I've been around gyms long enough to recognise this is a legitimate issue. Men who's only meal is plain boiled chicken and rice with boiled veg is absolutely an eating disorder. Women going on "cleanses" which are just repackaged bulimia behaviours. Its a legitimate thing. My PT has a coworker who refuses to season food because "enjoying food ruins gym progress". This isn't even new, and it's a very real issue. I've witnessed it all first-hand with my parents. There's no psyop or conspiracy here. Unless you want to talk about the health craze grifters and the snake oil products and diets they're peddling.

Just so we're clear that is not 'absolutely an eating disorder' if that style of eating works for them and doesn't cause negative physical and psychological effects, and it's not really anyone's place to make that judgement other than the person themselves or a therapist. Imo people are too comfortable making remarks about what or how other people eat when really they should be minding their own business. It's a joke! When you give me that look, it's a joke!

It’s a disorder when it causes deficiencies or other health issues. If they’re eating enough and getting proper nutrition, which they have to do to maintain their physique, then it’s simply an atypical diet. As criminal as not seasoning your chicken may be, it doesn’t automatically make it a disorder. I’m sure there are gym bros out there with eating disorders, but let’s not generalize.
Skyana Rava 2,750
This isn't a new eating disorder, orthorexia nervosa has been identified for decades. Not sure why they framed it like some new event

Imo people are too comfortable making remarks about what or how other people eat when really they should be minding their own business. Eating only 1 specific kind of food on repeatfor 365 days a year because of a focus on macro content for health over enjoyment of food is literally part of what the experts are talking about with orthorexia. A person with orthorexia may experience: Strong anxiety about their food choices, particularly around their diet not meeting their personal high standards of ‘purity’ Social isolation as a person withdraws from activities and people who do not align with their strict dietary regime Feelings of guilt following ‘slip-ups’ Heightened self-esteem when eating foods that are ‘healthy’ Mood swings, anxiety and depression https://eatingdisorders.org.au/eating-disorders-a-z/orthorexia/#:~:text=Orthorexia is a term that, food to an excessive degree. So yeah - structuring meals to focus entirely on macronutritional content to the exclusion of all other factors is disordered eating and a symptom of orthorexia. It absolutely does come with negative mental effects. 6 hours ago, elsamars said: lol why are we making up disorders... As above - experts don't attribute negative physical health issues witg orthorexia. They attribute negative mental health through the obsessive pursuit of food purity. Someone expressing that seasoning ruins gym progress while eating a restricted heavily ordered like the one described absolutely fits the standards of orthorexia.
