Last night at the 2025 Game Awards ceremony Lara Croft's return was revealed by not one, but TWO new game announcements. In 2026, Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis, the (second) reimagining of the first title, will be released on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series S/X. Then in 2027, the next main-line title Tomb Raider: Catalyst will drop on the same platforms. Both games developed by Crystal Dynamics and published by Amazon Games Studios, with Flying Wild Hog assissting with development for Legacy of Atlantis. Sounds like it’s new reboot of the series, basically. First one is a reimagining of the original TR game and then the second is a new sequel to that one. So Legacy of Atlantis is a remake of the original 1996 game, which now canonically follows on from Shadow of the Tomb Raider (2018), but Catalyst is meant to follow on from Tomb Raider Underworld (2008), since that chronologically is Lara’s most recent adventure with the new unified timeline. TR1 and Anniversary are both so nostalgic and have beautiful atmosphere it’s hard NOT to play them.
