Aura's reworked verse vocals are inferior to the leaked demo. The faint "hee-hees" in ARTPOP (title track) should be louder. The horns in Enigma are not as prominent in the recording and the fact that there is no jazzy disco house outro in the recording like the live performance (my fave part of CBT ) And other general mastering issues. But the way they did the arrangement/mixing of the chorus is an absolute disaster, it sounds way too abrasive compared to the rest of the song and the beautiful synth chords weren’t done justice at all, also because of the horrible bass (what was RedOne thinking) that is messy and doesn’t follow the rhythm and melody of the synths. I actually always thought the chorus sounded messy af, but I couldn’t understand exactly why until I listened to the stems. And damn, the chorus bass is really, really, really bad. You could get away with it in another song or in another part of this song, but it's actually in a part of the song where everything has stopped and the focus is completely on her voice and her words, and it's not her best moment imo. It’s my favorite song on Mayhem, but I wish the bridge was more than just a slowed down version of the pre-chorus. I like Poker Face and Alice, but both have outros that last too long and feel repetitive (I know Alice is already short so maybe it needs it, but Poker Face could end a whole minute earlier). Song lyrics though, where you sit down and think about it, and try this or try that, that's different. Sometimes it's ok, like Abra has some gibberish but she's reciting a spell so anything goes, or Plastic Doll has some childlike lyrics but the point is to try to create a Barbie doll sound. Or I've heard people complain about 'I want lots of friends that invite me to their parties', but again, she's trying to sound like a teenage girl and I really like that line.
