I’ve always found these arguments so dumb bc god also would have created the people who “deviate” from their gender roles. I can understand the “there’s are two sexes” logic but there are infinite personalities between all men and women and stupid mindsets like this are the exact reason that YES, There is pressure to be more manly as a man and same goes for the ladies. Men can be empathetic and care for others, and women can be courageous and ambitious. If you happen to fall into the category of what is traditionally considered appropriate for your assigned sex (which is determined by culture btw not the bible)  then good for you. That doesn’t mean that everyone else who doesn’t is demonic and out of line. And the super strong opinions on things you can simply just not take part in? Nobody is forcing her to explore masculinity lmao

I don’t think the professor should have given this student a zero. The essay is bad, but not worse than what I would expect from an average college student. It should’ve just gotten a bad grade for not interacting specifically enough with the article.

I have read people saying it’s understood that college kids must cite empirical evidence in their essays. Not in my experience grading college papers. The paper obviously isn’t term paper quality, but it’s just a reaction paper.

And what score would you give a piece of work that doesn't follow the instructions, that doesn't reflect scientific evidence but rather religious beliefs, and that also includes inappropriate behavior? I mean, you're supposed to be a psychology student. I'd send you to two or three therapy sessions.

Luckily, I live in a secular country like Uruguay, and even so, it's very common for everyone to have their own beliefs. There are many churches here, but the custom of attending Mass, for example, isn't deeply ingrained in society. To give you an example, my family goes to the Church of San Pancras on the 12th of each month to touch the statue, because he's supposed to be the guardian of health and work. We do it more for the good energy of the place; it's like a special place. But even there, I've NEVER met people so religiously ignorant. Imagine, I even have tattoos on my face, and nobody looks at me strangely 🤣 Why is the United States so clueless? I'm serious.

The only thing I would change on the professors part is maybe more constructive criticism of the essay contents, but at the same time in the current climate AND being trans reading that I can get why she was upset. It should be noted that the girl was also ~400 words short of the essay requirement of 620 words.

The rubric has been mostly ignored by news outlets, but there was a minimum word count and she didn't come close to even partial credit. Within the first paragraph of the actual assignment, it's stated "I will not give credit for papers under 620 words". IMO the instructor should have just kept their feedback down to "Does not meet minimum word count" but they fell into a trap in which they actually took the time to read the student's paper and tried to give real constructive criticism on the merits of the content.
