So earlier this year, she released an album she had been working on for a decade, which is set up like a musical about Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden, and my best guess is that she felt inspired to rework the track in the style of that album

I despise when artists cover songs and change the pronouns. Either commit to it, and be unafraid of being perceived as gay, or don't cover it at all.

The K-pop boy group TXT covered Taylor Swift's Love Story and kept the lyrics as if it were Juliet singing to Romeo, and it was so refreshing to hear male artists unafraid of using male pronouns in a cover.

It took me a long time to come around to that remix, but it clicked after a few listens. This Garden of Eden cover is not doing it for me lol

I was moreso explaining my general disdain for artists changing pronouns in the first place, but this is true. I don't think I'd feel so affronted by it if it were slightly more interesting sonically. The concept's there, especially with her stage name being Boyfriend (which I guess is why she changed it to boyfriend) but it's just a bit boring.
