I think empathizing and being interested in her internal world makes sense (as I am as well), but there’s just something that makes me cringe and wince when people start dissecting her clinical psychology because, imo, that goes past empathic narrative intrigue into more invasive assumptions about someone’s mental state in a way that I would imagine would make most people uncomfortable or self-conscious if they were on the receiving end of it. Not necessarily saying you’re doing this, but I think there’s a clear distinction between empathizing with someone’s mental health journey and then using their disclosure to either analyze them in a way that feels borderline objectifying or to mock a very vulnerable disclosure by turning it into a meme. Like, why the hell would I stan Gaga if I can’t discuss and make parallels between her feelings and her art? She’s always been all about using her art as therapy for herself and for the public and inspiring people to find ways of seeing life that gets them out of their coffin. Getting to know/explore more about her actual health allows us to put all those things into perspective, it’s more concrete as opposed to just a “fantasy”. You’re absolutely right that it’s parasocial obviously I can only speak for myself, but I use her art AND what we know/think we know about her mental health to inspire myself on a daily basis, it’s like a fascinating lesson I try to learn from as I have no reference around me to help. If Gaga was only making great-sounding music and beautiful visuals without all the depth and rational context, I would’ve probably died like 10 years ago. Omg do you guys remember that thread someone made about Gaga having autism? And people were eating it up like I think we have to understand that we truly only see clips/images of her and no one knows what she is like behind closed doors. It's similar to when people blast celebrities for being rude, divas, ungrateful, etc. because they don't walk out of their apartment smiling, or if a pap takes a pic of them while wiggling their nose and people think they're an asshole because... they weren't smiling! Like do you expect these celebrities to look friendly for every waking second of life with a permanent clown-like smile? I knew was she was "acting" during the ASIB press tour given the fake accent she was doing. I'm so glad she stopped doing that, but otherwise she seemed very fine and happy. Nothing would suggest that she was struggling as much as she was. You just won't see it in interviews and shows because it's personal.

I think the only time she has ever truly let it bare is her Dope performance at the YouTube awards and honestly her tour interludes!

I am a long time fan and watching my favorite artist decline but still continuing to pushing through, from ARTPOP to Joanne, Jazz, ASIB and Chromatica, I was in awe of her resilience and perseverance. Even when I watched the Joanne tour, I could tell there was this blanket of sadness. There was no Michael back then and yet she still managed to produce all those amazing works. That is something to be very proud of and no one can ever doubt her strength or work ethic. If Michael is who she needs to complete her world then she deserves it. Even if she was clearly struggling, the fact that she had the resolve to continue to create is really really admirable. It's interesting you mention that. Last week, at my show, someone sent "your resilience inspires me" in the Voices of Mayhem thing, and Gaga replied something like "yeah I don't know if I'm that resilient but thanks" The only GGD member who can read / Credits to Celloo Deng for the profile pic!
