My hot take is that I honestly prefer how direct Chromatica is in confronting her trauma, but I think the production holds it back from being top tier Gar We have forgotten our public MANNERS

After revisiting Chromatica recently, it's SO glaring how much she's hiding behind the production/drops. I think the CBT bringing the album and parts of its creation process (her "restrained" by her biggest hits in the opening; giant flamethrowers symbolic of her smoking endlessly on the studio porch; the "brutalist museum" also functioning as a prison of her fame and iconography, etc.) really made the album so much more engaging, and, as you say, is part of a larger conversation in her art that began with ARTPOP.
Davidsdaze 492
One time I got super high and was in the middle of a Uni class break, nothing different. I’d usually go to a park or back home to smoke a bowl and eat lunch. One particular day, within the release of ARTPOP, I was also listening to ARTPOP the song. I remember being so in to it and vibing hard, then all of a sudden I entered this psychedelic state in which I lost some of my hearing and felt very light, but could still very distantly hear ARTPOP. I geeked for a minute then I blinked and I could hear normally again. I will always associate that moment and feeling to ARTPOP. If Anne Hathawill, Anne Hathaway. I’d replace Venus with G.U.Y and add Applause in there too. Edited 1 hour ago by Smother Em Eh Get Applause & G.U.Y to 1B views!
Lucas 27,889
Yeah I'd say the iTunes festival was the highlight of the era. Finally hearing songs from the album, and the live versions which are far superior to the studio versions.
