Not necessarily true though. Her pure sales would probably be considerably lower and they also had radio, which I believe was stronger in the sales formula back in the day. Streaming isn't what's carrying Taylor through sales (aside from TTPS), it's her variants. And as much I am a hater, Madonna also had reissues. Though on better merits than Taylor.

ive loved taylor for years now, she was my top artist 2 years in a row, however i dont feel like she deserves this. i love madonna aswell, shes likely going to be my top artist this year; shes had more of an impact and has achieved her sales, in my opinion, more organically and fairly as she doesn't release multiple variants of her albums. this is undeserved for taylor imo. her new album is also her worst, and the record that it broke surpassing 25 is also undeserved. 25 is a truly incredible album, tloasg is terrible.

I think that’s a good thing though because Gaga and Katy were the last female pop artists to gain most of their achievements in sales from ACTUAL purchases. Like as much as we don’t like her (and trust me I loathe her) Katy getting FIVE long standing number 1 singles from an album and tying with Michael Jackson is INSANE when you think about it. She did that back in 2010/11 before the streaming boom. 
 

In my eyes Gaga is top 10, because the majority of Taylor’s sales came from her marketing herself as younger than she is and just re-releasing her old music since like 2020. Her sales were good but not even close to what they are now overall before the streaming era happened. And it’s crazy when you think she’s only released 2 (now 3) original albums since Reputation that weren’t re-recordings. 
 

Taylor wasn’t even close to selling as much as Gaga or Katy in 2011 she only really garnered those types of “sales” in the streaming boom of 2012/13 and beyond (Red onwards - ironically after she decided to go more pop in sound after this is when she REALLY got high streams and sales)

Making widely known pop music =\= being the queen of pop. Madonna has been and still is the queen of Pop because of her contribution to the genre and if it wasn’t for Madonna there’d be no Taylor Swift or Gaga for instance.
