Sabrina Carpenter named hitmaker of the year by Variety

Variety announced that singer-songwriter Sabrina Carpenter will be honored with the Hitmaker of the Year award at our ninth annual Hitmakers celebration.

The event and coinciding Hitmakers issue look back at the year in music and recognize the writers, producers, publishers, managers and executives who helped make — and break — the 25 most-consumed songs of the year, as measured by Billboard and Luminate charts. Hitmakers culminates with an invitation-only brunch held in Los Angeles on Saturday, Dec. 6. TikTok and Riot Games will be Premier Partners of the event. More honorees and details will be announced in the coming weeks. 

Previous Variety Hitmakers of the Year include Charli xcx, SZA, Kendrick Lamar, Billie Eilish, Harry Styles, Jack Harlow, and Elton John and Dua Lipa.

Sabrina's album came and went. Not only that but it received more lukewarm reception than Short and Sweet. Mayhem has been both a critical and commerical success along with Gaga's headline making performances at Coachella and Rio. She's a clear favorite at the upcoming awards season for a reason.

Your claim was about her not having a hit and you not hearing her songs this year. So I asked you how you define a hit, nobody was talking about quality. 
 

If releasing 4 songs (in 10 days the 5th joins them) with over 1b streams in 3 years, and having 5 Top 5 songs with more than 30 weeks charting  (in only 1,5 years) doesn’t define having hits, again, enlighten me, what exactly is a hit? What is your merit?
