She should’ve kept it as the non-explicit version and use check instead

Idefix1999 459
I went to the cinema listening party yesterday. After listening to the album in the morning I liked the first three tracks, Wood and Cancelled. The music video for TFOO is her best video in a long time and it really matches the "Showgirl" theme. The explanations for every song made me understand some of the calmer songs more. It's not about the life of a showgirl you see onstage, but rather what goes on backstage, that it isn't all glittery and colourful and jazzy with jewelry and feathers. I was also a bit disappointed that the music didn't sound as much showgirl-ish as the covers and photos seemed to promise, but as the songs were written backstage on The Eras Tour I can get what "The Life of a Showgirl" could be about. Besides Wish List and Honey I think the other songs are good, some are great. It isn't her best album and I can understand that not everyone likes it. I imagined the album being called "Opalite" and somehow the songs would still work. I'm looking forward to seeing another tour, as my Vienna concert got cancelled. We definitely shouldn't expect a Showgirl Tour a la Kylie Minogue, but I think a tour with this album would still work great.

I didn't miss any of the b!tches-lyrics since all the songs worked well (or even better?) without them. The only change that was worse was changing "tighs" to "skies" in Woods.

HermesG 1,721
Just listened the whole thing. Two songs are good and interesting (Ophelia n Showgirl) still not something very unique and wow.. All the others are totally bland and some (like romantic) are bad.. Also the vibe of photos and title doesn't fit at all at the vibe of music.. like AT ALL! it's like you buy Kylie and receive broke Lana. Still don't understand how this girl became that big with people. Its really a phenomenon for scientific research. I mean, shes so flat n one dimensional. I guess, obviously, she have something (she's beautiful ok) that most girls or people in general consider the type of successful and they would like to be something like that , but i really cant understand and relate. Anyways, good for her. That numbers are amazing. But in terms of art she will leave behind only success in numbers and nothing special in terms of art or music to be remembered of. For me the album is 4/10. That 7 is totally overrated. Edited October 4, 2025 by HermesG

LordByron28 1,275
Listened to the album. Most of the tracks have some decent hooks. Definitely more curated experience than TTPD. It’s an album perfectly honed in on the style she has curated during her career with all of the emblematic traits. I think the backlash comes from the visuals and theme seemingly promising a different sound than just another Taylor Swift record. Also the subject matter she explores has all been done countless times over in previous albums. Some of it like the beef with Charli comes across contrived to try and find a celebrity drama to discuss for the album. It’s not bad and an easy listen but it also lacks evolution and artistic growth and is incredibly safe. I would’ve been happy and was expecting a really big pop album that may have had more of a loud sound that maybe just discussed her being engaged to a major league national football player, being a billionaire, traveling the world with the most successful tour and enjoying the fruits of her labor. Just something a little more happy, appreciative, celebratory instead of the same subject matter she has discussed for 15 years with the same sound. Also, if you are going to write a diss track, how about you start with the POTUS who most assuredly has said more nasty and hurtful things about you publicly than Charli XCX yet instead you write a track how you prefer hanging out with people who support a man that says all of those things to you. Don’t get me wrong I will return and continue listening to the album, the first four tracks are solid as well as some other standouts. Other than the unnecessary charli beef where she comes across on the wrong side of the coin. There’s nothing super wrong with the album. She’s always had cringe lyrics that’s part of her appeal. I guess she’s now discovered sexual innuendos now that Sabrina is big but that’s about it in terms of new content from her. Overall just incredibly safe in terms of subject matter and sound. I’d like to see her take some risks.
