Trump shifts tone on Ukraine war

President Donald Trump said Tuesday that Ukraine could restore its borders from before Russia’s invasion and that he believes NATO member countries should shoot down Russian aircraft if they enter their airspace, escalating his rhetoric against the Kremlin as its war in Ukraine drags on.

Taken together, Trump’s remarks on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly about shooting down Russian aircraft and his later post on Truth Social about Ukraine’s borders seemed to reflect a significant shift in his attitude toward Moscow and what the end of the intractable conflict might look like.

His comments on Ukraine’s borders represent the first time since taking office that he’s suggested the nation could win back all of the territory that Russia has taken since 2014. He had previously suggested Ukraine would need to give up some of its territory in order to secure a peace deal. And his statement on NATO shooting down aircraft suggests a willingness to put the defense alliance in more direct conflict with Russia than merely giving weapons to Ukraine.

Putin told him he's not attracted to him anymore bc he's getting chubby and now Trump is lashing out.

His alliances are so skewed...one second he lashes out at Ukraines president...then he rolls out the red carpet for Russias president... now that he basically ignored his threats...Trump continues to...threaten with no real consequences

Most importantly he said "Europe and Ukraine should get the territories back", which means the US keeps watching with popcorn and without bigger USA involvement Ukraine cannot win anyway, which is carte blanche for Putin to continue after Biden invited him "we will send no soldiers in hypothetical case Russia attacks Ukraine".

Trump probably realized that talking to Putin is a waste of time and that solving the war without a direct war is impossible, which is why he is outsourcing the problem onto Europe which now has to deal with the unsolvable problem on its own. At some point, if I were like Italy's president, I wouldn't attend these Ukriane summits either, they are pointless, are a waste of time, yield no results, Putin is doing what he wants anway and his 5500 nuclear weapons are blackmailing Europe.

This man has literally destroyed every f***ing possible alliance you could even think of from allyship with members of the EU to hell even countries like Russia or China or North Korea if we wanna talk about who he really wants to be friends with. And yet, I have never seen someone so disliked by BILLIONS of people that not even dictators running regimes for decades want to be to associated with him. Everything he says, everything he touches, everything he does creates more risk, enhances liabilities, and doesn't even splash waves internationally anymore because we're at a point where the U.S. is on its own, siloed because no one wants to work with him. And he did it to himself because you can't work with someone like Trump; you can only work for him. And his back and forth rhetoric and changing tunes does nothing because it always ends up with people getting hurt. Period.
