could you imagine the carnage if swift, grande, gaga, adele, sheeran, bieber, beyonce, madonna, perry, spears, halsey, p!nk, carpenter, roan and more released an album once a year? 

i'm guessing labels stagger releases on purpose

Make hay while the sun shines. I like Sabrina but she has the mold of a pop star that lasts 3-4 mainstream eras (Dua, Katy, Xtina, Fergie, etc.). Making the most of her time and trying to build a fanbase is the smartest thing to do imo.

#1 has four new songs I think, and some of them became singles with radio play. Unplugged produced a Hot100 hit too.

Counting 7 albums over 10 years is still pretty impressive.

When albums started to have huge promotional rollouts and then world tours that followed. I would say 2-3 years per album is more standard than 4-5. 
 

It probably changed around the time pop music became what it still is today, so late 80s when Madonna, Janet, Michael and Whitney were releasing. The examples used above, while still being popular artists and songs, are more rooted in specific genres. Thats not uncommon today, for example rappers put out a lot of music yearly. It’s just out of the ordinary for a popstar to release like this. She’s more similar to Donna Summer or Cher’s releases in the 70s/80s but that’s before the standard that was set by the 90s. 
 

At the time, people thought it was odd how often Mariah released the first years of her career because she never toured and barely ever performed live.

Eh I think she needs time to adjust to stardom more and is taking that. Good for her. Sabrina was a Disney kid so she got a runway to it
