I was at MSG last night and before the show started, an announcer said we were getting a special treat and they filmed it. She did each song twice and they reset between them. She said “put your hands up MTV” during Abra, so it was definitely for the vmas. Thank you. But we don’t know WHEN, right? Is she opening? tlittlemonster 2,076
I don't know how I feel about this year The fact they chose to nominate DWAS over Abracadabra for all major categories makes me so angry

A poster on GoldDerby who participated in the voting process mentioned this several weeks before nominations. DWAS was the bigger hit and its MV has significantly more views; it made sense to prioritize it in the general categories and Abracadabra in the technical ones. It’d be like submitting 911 over ROM had they been released in the same eligibility period - regardless of which you prefer, DWAS (like ROM) clearly has a better shot at actually winning awards that favor the most commercially successful entries. The VMAs isn't an award for the biggest hit or most successful song. It's an award for the best video. In that sense, it made more sense to submit Abracadabra over DWAS. Also, despite DWAS being the bigger hit, I would actually say the Abracadabra MV had more cultural impact than the DWAS MV. Your example doesn't really make sense. Abracadabra's success is far bigger than 911 and on par (if not superior) than Rain on Me, when you look at the streams + sales numbers for the same time after release. MJVL 47
Where can we watch it? Does anyone outside US know where to watch in the EU? The MTV channel I have doesn't show the VMA on the grid. I don't remember how I watched the 2020's edition.

whoresup 2,897
For the first time in forever I’m excited for the VMAs. Not because of anything other than the fact Gaga is nominated and performing. It will likely be an absolute shambolic mess of a show but we live in hope

The VMA's currently reward popularity or just the fact that the artist is attending the ceremony lol. DWAS was the obvious choice for the big categories. And their example makes complete sense, I don’t know what you’re not understanding. It’s not about which is better, it’s about which videos is more popular, and DWAS is the one with +1B views.
