Under normal rules I'd agree.

But like Lizzo says, the way the GP consume music now is just tearing up the rules.

I kinda get her point. 

Visibility is so hard these days even for major artists. If not for gagadaily i wouldn't even know a lot of these artists dropped music meanwhile back in the day, any artist with a strong label and good roll out would be inescapable on release day/week wether the project ended up flopping or not.

Its weird how these days a song can be slaying the charts and you might not even know it exists.

If I had a music label, I’d buy advertising slots on streaming services to do lump “new music releases” commercials. Targeted ads would mean people still wouldn’t know who is releasing what, so if several artists are lumped together, that expands the reach. That’s my two cents anyway  hell, they could get ****ing creative and sponsor YouTubers lol. Obviously only two examples, but there’s plenty of avenues to spread music. I don’t get why labels do none of it. It literally feels like it’s just some New York billboards, posters, instagram, and TikTok. Why don’t more artists try to get songs into video games in some capacity? Trailers in movie theaters? Idk

It’s true. Because way back, the way music used to be consumed by people was through radio and videos and everyone was seeing the same things because the platforms were not in their control (radio and tv). So the labels and radio stations could basically promote and program whatever they wanted to push and people would make them hits. But now everyone consumes music in TikTok and Spotify and YouTube, which all have algorithms to feedback specific music to each person based on their preferences. So Gaga fans can feel like everything she released this year is a huge hit because your TikTok FYP is nothing but videos of people doing choreo to every track on Mayhem but the GP is not seeing these videos. We’re all in our own echo chambers. It’s much harder to have an across the board breakout now.
