I think that people are so used to the pop formula of epileptic montage and multitude of outfits and set pieces that they can’t really appreciate anything different… I’ve been a fan of Tim Burton’s since I was 4 years old and know his work like the back of my hand, and while I’ll gladly admit that he’s somewhat lost his mojo a while ago, this video is exactly what should’ve been expected from him. I’m really confused to see some of the reactions here.

if nobody said who directed it, would you have guessed it was directed by tim burton? no. that means bad directing, no style, no point of view. it could literally have been directed by anyone.

i feel like the whole wednesday thing: tdd, video and show appearance are underwhelming and couldve been kept in the drafts.

Only the Tudum performance truly gave us something worth watching (and rewatching).. and it was the “beginning” of the Wednesday sub-era.. sad.

Y'all expect way too much sometimes. She got a cameo role in a Tim Burton series because of a trend she was attached to by chance, so she got to make a song for the show. They had a little time set aside to shoot a cute music video for it.

Not only did we get an extra song and music video out of the MAYHEM era... Now Burton is a fan and publicly wants to make things with her. Probably bigger, more intricate projects.

But that's less likely to happen if fan reception is just a bunch of complaining.

This is my Hannah Montana™️ lipgloss.

ok but you're forgetting gaga is also a part of this project. it's normal for people to have hoped that more of her creativity and innovation would mix with tim's to create a truly spectacular video.

I've been a fan of Tim Burtons movies since i was a child first seeing Nightmare Before Christmas & I've been a fan of Gaga since 2009.

To me this song and video are great, it's campy and fun. Personally, I don't know how people watch the video and see 0 Tim Burton in it.. Sure it's not more fantastical like a lot of his works but I still see Tim Burtons POV 100% and have since the leak. The sunken dark eyes and pale skin, sort of victorian clothing and hair. She actually reminds me a lot of Mrs. Lovett from Burton's adaptation of Sweeney Todd.

I think he did his job perfectly fine.

Gaga is heavily involved in all her work, so im sure this is what she wanted, no need to blame Burton

Mixed feelings, so I will organize my thoughts:

1) Tim Burton was incredibly influential and different when he came up. That deserves respect. But.
2) Tim has also, IMO, been problematic lately. And beyond that, not as great as he used to be.
3) It's clear there were budget constraints for this video, so I don't want to be too harsh. Gaga gave it her all as she always does.
4) The video did feel like a Tim Burton video in the sense that it felt like a cheap version of him. Like, haunted, cracked porcelain dolls? It's hardly new.
5) I also get that this did not have the budget that a video like Abracadabra had. And I get that this was probably rushed on all sides.
6) With that said, many indie directors with way smaller budgets can come up with better stories and more original concepts. I get that Gaga and Tim were probably working under insane constraints with a lower budget, but for me, like--if you can't do it--let a younger and more hungry director do it for less money. They are hungrier one probably would have produced a better video. Tim isn't hungry anymore. IMO.
7) I also don't like Tim for what Helena revealed about him not wanting his son to be gay by going to broadway. I'm fully next on him.
8) I do not support Depp, I support Amber.

That's all!

I’m glad this video is older/ low budget style Tim Burton and not 2010s era Tim Burton. I expected the aesthetic to be more Dark Shadows but I’m pleasantly surprised. The weird vfx plays into the B-Movie vibe and I think it works well marrying both his and Gaga’s style imo.

As to the doll being ai? I don’t think so. Just cheap vfx like you would find in low budget horror movies from the 80s/90s and stuff like that

It would've worked better as a short film... :oprah: I don't mean it in the sense that it should've featured more songs, but it would've been great if they added a storyline, maybe 5 extra minutes to explore that. But that is risky commercially speaking, short films don't do well nowadays :air: Despite that, I think it's a pretty good MV, it's fun

hmm I think we kinda recreated Tim's theme of movies into a "scary horror" theme, but if u think about it, most of his films were goofy, comedic horror, with the Burton aesthetics, which kinda fits the video in some sense.

Wednesday atmosphere is similar to the original Ghostbusters, in some sense, TDD is very similar to the Ghostbusters song.

So sploosh your juice all over me you Riverboy
