The black and white German expressionist inspiration, the doll character, the giallo-like colors, the stop motion animation… It’s literally all there. this! i got strong ed wood vibes from the whole black and white sections, then beetlejuice vibes from the coloured portions. the stop motion was the cherry on top. it was like i was transported to my childhood. do you guys mind if i scream about the olympics 2
elsamars 1,804
The verdict is in! The users of GagaDaily expressed their opinions. Over 60% said that Tim Burton FAILED to deliver. It’s now appropriate to use nicknames such as Mid Burton or Tim Burtanked. Thank you. 1

Ed Wood is so spot on! I mean, she's literally Sarah Jessica Parker's character on steroids.

So I turned off the lights and the room was dark, I played it on tv and.. DAMN The video is perfection lol Like totally caught me off guard And so many little Tim Burton details that I missed. The whole atmosphere, the Tim horror humor and cheeky moments. Also the bridge is very Tim-coded. Give it a chance if you're really Tim fan I was so wrong yesterday omg When we got back to my place after the depressing drive back from Miami we watched the video on my big TV and grooved a bit I was actually surprised to come here and see how many people didn't like it 'cause I think it's good You're stinky

Same for DWAS. I like how the two videos you quoted are not standard Gaga videos... TEOG is well documented as not being the video they originally wanted to do, and she changed the concept right before shooting and to do as simplified video as the song's theme was about "Glory" and she was reflecting on how she succeeded after living in a tiny apartment dreaming of making it big. DWAS is a collab that wasn't even intended for any album with another artist. If you really wanted to argue in favour of a simpler video, the Perfect Illusions video would have been more logical ones to use, but that was also tied to a project that was not really a classic Gaga project where she wanted to tone things down to focus on a more country-singer approach. (It's also arguably one of her least interesting videos to date...) That's three videos in as many decades. I'm merely saying she hasn't always stuck to one formula, thank you for adding another example that proves my point. It's rare, but it happened, and I believe that it works when a concept is strong enough to stand on its own. I'd go as far as saying the scarcity of looks in those videos made the associated visuals that much more recognizable and, dare I say, iconic. I also wasn't aware this fanbase was so averse to witnessing anything different Edited Saturday at 01:38 AM by elijahfan

I also wasn't aware this fanbase was so averse to witnessing anything different People who were disappointed with the video weren't disappointed because it didn't stick to a formula. (Gaga videos do not have one. Poker Face, Born This Way and Stupid Love are completely different videos and concepts entirely.) They were disappointed because it felt underwhelming considering the two visionary talents attached to it (LG x TB). It's cute you consider this video "different" when it seems fairly linear and straightforward to me. Gaga dancing among a bunch of dolls in a vintage dress. It's as straightforward as a pop music video can be. It's even cuter you're criticising the fanbase for not wanting difference when the entire reason 99% of us support and love Gaga is PRECISELY because she is different and has always been. Yet you are now coming at us for not feeling like this video stands out or brings anything new or different to the table ... Boy please... Every creative aspect of the video is something that’s been echoed throughout his filmography. Of course, you wouldn’t know if you’ve only seen Edward Scissorhands and are basing your opinion solely on this. im not a burton fan, ive seen a bunch of his movies, im basing this in my knowledge of cinema as a whole. maybe his work in general is ass 🤷

You yourself made a point out of proving she rarely makes straightforward videos... in my book, it means this video is different from what she usually serves. You can't say this video is different in one post, and say it's not different in another, make it make sense At this point it's obviously a matter of y'all having actually no idea what makes a Tim Burton film a Tim Burton film. Blame it on yourselves though, not on the artists.
