I've literally not seen a single person hating on "Jews" and that's considering I'm (unfortunately for my mental health) reading comments on social media where people are absolutely cruel.

People just hate on Israel as a country because of what it's currently doing.

I've seen lots of awful comments about Jews unfortunately. 

Some people feel more comfortable showing their hate because of what's happening in Gaza.

Using the first time you address Gaza to talk about antisemitism is definitely a weird move.

Theres nothing wrong with addressing the rise of antisemitism, which is a thing, but the way he went on talking about this feels like he didn’t even wanna actually talk about what’s happening in Gaza and just wanted to say peace and love for everyone.

This is my issue with celebs being performative. If you want to speak out and show support for Gaza, great, say it out loud.

If you have to follow that statement with a “but” or “and” then just don’t bother saying anything at all. You’re just trying to “both sides” the situation and not wanting to anger anyone off. 

And at least try to be specific with what’s happening. Children being shot at for trying to get aid. Hospitals being bombed. Gazans being starved. Journalists being killed. Your “heart being broken” is meaningless and just empty platitude if you won’t even address the atrocities we are witnessing.

Besides, it could easily be an "and" instead of a "but" 'cause the rise in antisemitism is directly due to the genocide being committed by the self-titled "Jewish state" that claims to be "working towards Jewish goals" by slaughtering thousands of innocents.

Anyone that says "whats happening in Palestine is horrible BUT..." doesnt actually care about Palestine.

Yes hatred towards Jewish people is wrong, and you can talk about that, and ill agree with you. But why say that after talking about Palestine, and making the focus about hating Jewish people, while siding the Palestinian issue?

My initial thought was wow i did not expect Shawn Mendes out of all people to make a supportive statement about Gaza and then read the full thing and... yeah exactly what I thought

These people are using the genocide as a free ticket to express their already existed antisemitism, just like after every terror attack by ISIS, all the islamophobics used it to express their already existed islamphobia.

To minimize the reason of antisemitism to "Israel" is wrong and sugar coating antisemitism.

A few months ago I was at a gay pride here, I went to say hello and introduce myself to the Jewish Queer organization, it has no connection to Israel, they didn't claim any support to Israel, they were not born there.

It didn't stop a person to throw glass bottles at us while screaming "free Palestine", I had some injuries and went to the hospital and had some stichtes.

I didn't want to make a fuss about it and open a thread here though. maybe it was a mistake.

 

I'm not saying that what Shawn said is ok or wrong, but this thread is an example why celebrities or even private people are not saying anything, because as long as they don't align with what is "cool" right now, they would get a bunch of hateful comments in return.. nothing will satisfy the mob.

Yep. Earlier today I saw a comment with a ton of likes claiming Hitler was half-right because of what Israel has been doing lately.
