well yes but the media is incredibly unfair towards pop girls, it'll ignore the fact sales continue to decline and focus on the fact she "finally failed" to break a million first week because she kept expectations too high for too long

that's why i used ARTPOP as an example; it still sold well but the media was in love with bashing gaga and branded it a commercial flop

Yeah, but thats just padded stuff included making it a "package". Very few fans are motivated by that kind of stuff, definitely less than would be motivated by exclusive tracks.

Its nothing new, its been the done thing for like 20 years. 

The exclusive tracks was a TTPD thing, but unlike Mayhem, those tracks were on streaming hours after release and with even bonus tracks. 

I don't like version exclusives, although let's face it this isn't something new that Taylor developed, but at least *most* acts include them on streaming platforms. Gaga's the only person I listen to where the version exclusives remain exclusive.

There's something really unique about the fanbase that Taylor has, and its desire to buy everything she puts out

My issue with what Taylor does is not the variants it’s the limited time countdowns for each before you know what all of your options are, I’m honestly confused if people are actually mad about the variants because that is just not the issue and if it is, it definitely does need to be served equal.

I mean I'm split on the variants but I fully agree with you about the countdown fomo tactics.

As for the variants, I think it is unethical but way less predatory. There's plenty of negatives behind the variants going a bit mental with all artists - its wasteful. Primarily if the variants are mass produced and not limited in quantity. 

Its bad for the environment- and as someone who frequents record fairs about 6 months after an album release you see boxes of them still in shrinkwrap hit the reseller stalls. Like I saw one that had 3 full boxes of Adele's 30. 

Then there's the fact that due to the ltd number of production plants for vinyls, these massive orders have a negative impact on smaller and indie acts. Forces them down the waitlist, delays their album launches etc. 

And that these mass releases and sales record hunting campaigns have helped drive up prices for vinyl collectors.

Its always up to the consumers and the demand which decide the number of sales no matter what and how since Gaga and everyone else does the same thing.
Taylor HAS demand. Its not that hard to understand.

Is that true though? I remember her releasing at least 8 digital versions with an exclusive track on each (like phone demos or accoustic versions) on her website, and I think those were never put on streaming services and were sold for a limited time too.

I truly don't understand why y'all fans are defending her cheap tactics and the way she's milking y'all... Everything she does is super calculated and strategic.

Even her easter eggs are nothing but ways for the audience to watch the same content again and again trying to catch something new
