https://www.theguardian.com/world/ng-interactive/2025/aug/21/revealed-israeli-militarys-own-data-indicates-civilian-death-rate-of-83-in-gaza-war

“As of May, 19 months into the war, Israeli intelligence officials listed 8,900 named fighters from Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad as dead or “probably dead”, a joint investigation by the Guardian, the Israeli-Palestinian publication +972 Magazine and the Hebrew-language outlet Local Call has found.

At that time 53,000 Palestinians had been killed by Israeli attacks, according to health authorities in Gaza, a toll that included combatants and civilians. Fighters named in the Israeli military intelligence database accounted for just 17% of the total, which indicates that 83% of the dead were civilians.”

Well of course, and they don't care because Hamas is an excuse for genocide which they have always wanted to take over Gaza.

This was fairly obvious to anyone with a brain the day after October 7.

They make 10/7 look like a slap on their wrist more and more every day, compared to their response like lol

Collateral damage, if to kill 1 man, they need to kill 50 people, they would kill these 50 people..

Point is, it's not something unique to Israel or to this war, it's how it always has been with every war, nobody gives a f-ck about civilians.

Hamas and 7 October are not excuses but the perfect opportunities that Netanyahu waited for them to happen for a long time, Hamas were too dumb to hand Gaza to Netanyahu and his psychotic government.

From what I can tell, Sinwar (the architect behind 10/7) actually wanted to goad Israel into an outsized, apocalyptic response as a way of both unraveling Israeli society from within (stoking feverish nationalism and collective paranoia) while also exposing their cruelty towards Gaza/Palestine as a way of destroying their standing on the global stage. In that way, October 7th was actually somewhat successful (much in the way you could argue that terror attacks on 9/11 in the US were successful in unraveling civil liberties in the US and further exposing the US’ violent colonialism), but ofc, as in every war, the civilians are the collateral damage for these types of power plays.

I agree with that, Israel reputation is at bottom, but it's not worth this big of a price price and the ongoing suffering and at the end, Netanyahu won.

No, absolutely not worth it and agreed that Netanyahu, at least for the time being, has won.

Thank you for mentioning this. A lot of people don't realize that 9/11 itself has actually played a COLOSSAL role in the current far-right environment we have in the US right now.

The title is quite misleading. Israel only listed 8900 terrorist were killed, but nothing about how many people really died. It is very misleading to calculate any percentages from two opposite sources, since the 53k numbers are from Hamas officials, not Israel.

I'm not having fun tonight.

The Gazan Ministry of Health is recognized as reliable by the UN, EU, independent governments, etc. As a matter of fact, most agencies fear the MOH is underreporting deaths 'cause their current stat of 64,000 deaths is only due to direct violence. Thousands more have died from the effects of violence.

The 8,900 militant number comes from an IDF intelligence leak but even if we go by Israel's reported number, which keeps fluctuating between 10,000 and 20,000 Hamas militants killed, that still gives them a "score" of 70% civilian murders in the best case scenario.

Firstly, the UN and WHO generally regard the numbers estimated by the Gaza Health Ministry to be accurate, but there are other peer reviewed studies from other credible sources (The Lancet, Brown University) that actually suggest the GHM’s numbers are somewhat conservative (each estimating 60k+).

Secondly, even if you think it’s not methodologically sound to compare numbers from two different sources, that’s on the IDF for not even venturing to estimate how many total casualties there have been in Gaza since 10/7.
