i mean she doesn't... her music sells, her tour is sold out and her make up line is self sustaining... the only thing that needs more building is her acting to recover from JFAD but the VMAs wont help with that

I believe every album and music she releases will inherently build on her name. Saying she “doesn’t have a brand to build” is just not true because each time an album comes something new will be added. New context and stories that require to be explored. Saying she doesn’t have a brand to build suggests she shouldn’t care about exploring these additions and just drop them. It’s not a matter not doing anything because it “will it sell on its own”, it’s a matter of world building with her music now and forever, and how all of that fits with what came before. Expecting her to never take a moment to talk and promote whatever she does simply because “she doesn’t need to” in terms of sales would be insanely uninteresting and boring, plus it’s a very black and white perspective on a very colorful brand imo

and this is even assuming that she’ll be “fine” in terms of sales for perpetuity. Many big artists have failed even after having massive peaks. Gaga is on top rn, but if this business has taught us anything is that all artists hit low points recurrently in their careers, which is why now, in the moments of more grace, should she be building, cause maybe next album won’t sell as well and maybe the next tour won’t be as huge. And then maybe the one after that will.

It’s long been rumored that the Vanguard Award was replaced by the Tricon Award in 2020, following the release of the documentary Leaving Neverland, which made serious sexual assault allegations against Michael Jackson, the artist the award was originally named after.

In 2021, MTV introduced the “Global Icon” award (a title previously used at the MTV EMAs) and gave it to the Foo Fighters.

Then, in 2022, the Vanguard Award returned, but without Michael Jackson’s name attached, and it has remained that way ever since.

 

However Gaga never officially won the Vanguard Award, making this room for her to win again in any year to come. This would be a perfect year if they didn't decide to tour in the night of the ceremony.

Yes but look at Katy’s brand health and legacy. It’s in shambles and that was a result of poor building and strategic thinking. Like she should not try to get there lol
