SlaeUrAnus 15,969
How TF has Abracadabra not been nominated for VOTY? I’m thrilled she has 12 noms, but come on. In my messy era.

In no way am I a DWAS super fan, but I have to say the video was a moment. Don't forget it's also about the combined star power of Gaga and Bruno, so I can understand why they'd choose it over Abracadabra, if they couldn't nominate both.
River 116,999
Abra will be nominated next year. VMA is one year behind since they canceled one year So sploosh your juice all over me you Riverboy

As much as Abracadabra is huge in the fandom and club scene, I think being in our bubble is giving us a bit of a biased opinion about how huge it actually is on a mainstream level. It peaked at n°13, DWAS hit n°1 and has kept strong for months. As much as y'all might hate to admit it, if there's one smash hit that came out of MAYHEM, it's DWAS, so I'm not surprised by their choice of nominations. I mean, let's be real for a minute here. 1

I think it just feels weird not seeing it there cause it was one of the most well done videos released this year, quality wise, but I agree with what you said. 27monster27 13,144
12 nominations. I wish Abracadabra could've gotten a nod for a major category, but alas this is still good. he/him/his

I dont know the criteria for vma norma but based on this then arianas brighter days ahead shouldn't be there either. Abracadabra is not as big as DWAS or some other songs on there but its one of the biggest hits released this year especially one that has a solid video. summerboi 10
Considering how the VMA's are some of the more orchestrated awards, I'm trying to figure out how the strategy considering she has a show in NYC that evening. (I think a reschedule would be in extremely poor taste, especially since Gaga is established enough that her team and MTV ought to have communicated their dates.) I think the biggest contender to beat for the big titles is Kendrick Lamar, especially since they're running DWAS for those. It's possible that they put the technically weaker video in so she intentionally won't sweep, but will still get the glory for her phenominal nomination record. On the other hand, DWAS has the benefit from its collaboration with Bruno, so he can accept any wins. I think they'll get at least one for DWAS, probably collab, but Kendrick will probably lead the wins. Do the technical awards even air on the broadcast, or do they typically have the choreographer/director/etc accept over the artist? I think it's likely she'll pick up a few there, since it won't require her being there, either way. The prospect of Vanguard is interesting. It's certainly her year, and a really ideal time... but the conflicting show! I wonder what's the feasibility of broadcasting a segment live (or live-ish) from her show? We all know the VMAs and other ceremonies have very little to do with what was actually the best in the past year... I wouldn't fret too much about it. She got 12 noms, it's amazing. She could pull an AMA / The Cure moment. The opening of this tour deserves to be broadcast on TV. And she could accept an award on her own stage or something, both events are literally happening in the same city.
