I mean, most likely scenario imo is American Eagle was fully aware that the ad would be interpreted like this and chose to make it because they knew the outrage would generate publicity/discourse.

Also, to anyone who says this isn't a big deal, please note that MAGA has already adopted this ad as "evidence" for why conservatives are hotter and why plus size body positivity isn't a good thing. This ad has made a negative impact.

Ding ding, this exactly what this is IMO and this just gives ammo to the idiots on the right who can point to the left and say: "see, they are hateful and petty, even sydney gets attacked" or something along those lines, people not ignoring this just gives them power.

Come on, big brands know EXACTLY what they're doing when they release marketing campaigns. They knew this would be controversial. They could've made two different ads with a poc girl but they deliberately chose the white blonde girl.

And saw doja response and it's exactly the type of response this warrants, just straight up making fun of the ad and not taking it seriously. And one of the reasons doja is a queen 

And I totally understand the worrying underlining message on the ad but we can't straight jump out with nazi parallels, that's not healthy, and it undermines the real nazi parallels with ICE, the illegal deportations and even deaths that are ongoing right now, calling everything nazi cheapens the actual horrors some people are going through right now at the hands of this trump administration and ultimately doesn't help their cause cause the right can point the left and say "they call everything nazi".

My tall black friend with a deep voice and thick Afro made the same joke and everyone laughed at work. The reality is that some people do have good genetic traits that makes them conventionally attractive in society, but this can be irregardless of race. So… I can see why this could be a problem (eugenics is not good obviously) but I can also see why it’s hilarious and shouldn’t be taken so deeply. This is a jeans ad for American Eagle from Sydney, not exactly a respectable or iconic actress. It’s meant to be cheeky.
