Below article quoted by the Dime Uploader of Montreal Newspaper Review:

The quintessential moment in Lady Gaga’s nearly sold-out concert at the Bell Centre Monday night might have happened while she wasn’t even on stage.

It came at the beginning of Paparazzi, as the first verse was being sung by a hologram head and the video screens showed shots of fans, thrilled to see themselves on screen. That, in effect, was the show in microcosm – an event that had everything to do with spectacle, artifice, effects and communal bonding, but very little to do with music.

Like Madonna, her spiritual godmother, Lady Gaga, quite undeniably, delivers in a live setting – perhaps with a bit less smugness and a lot more emotion. But the idea is the same: the whole thing is more akin to a Cirque du Soleil show than a rock concert. We can now imagine a future where some performers don’t have to show up at their own shows.

The Born This Way Ball, as Gaga’s current tour is called, has a storyline of sorts, but the awful sound made it difficult to follow. The stage is mostly filled by a giant castle with towers and moveable parts. There’s something about Mother G.O.A.T. (government-owned alien territory), who is after Gaga, an alien fugitive. Gaga kills a dancer, after which a giant belly and legs – which look rather more like a turkey than a woman giving birth – appear. The singer emerges through the unzipped womb. She pontificates and is taken away by guards.

Gaga escapes and then … well, who’s still trying to follow the story anymore? It’s all lights blasting everywhere, motion throughout the castle and along the catwalk, props that include a Gaga/ motorcycle hybrid and a mechanical horse, outfit changes (fourteen of them), meat skirts and a meat couch, dancers groping each other, a generous barrage of f-bombs and even simulated oral s-x in the charming Government Hooker (some kids spotted in the crowd looked about 8 or 9 years old, so kudos for great parenting to the moms and dads who brought them.).

In spite of the elaborate staging and choreography, Gaga took time to connect with her fans. During the evening closer, Marry the Night, she brought some of them up to work the stage with her. One sobbing girl was clearly overwhelmed, and all were visibly ecstatic to be in the Gaga aura.

In another part of the show, at each concert stop, she phones an audience member. The lucky recipient Monday night was 20-year-old Jeremy. The exchange triggered one of Gaga’s many self-help pep talks. “May this next generation suffer from less teen suicides and less sadness,†she said, adding that when she makes a political or social statement, it comes from her soul.

We got the message several times. There was, in fact, a bit too much talking. Not that Gaga’s mission of inclusion, tolerance, love and empowerment is anything but positive and necessary – but a drawn-out monologue repeatedly making the point that no one should give a f–k in the face of criticism only restated what is already in the lyrics. Much of the motivational speaking with `tude – she is the same as us, apparently – was overkill.

In the end, Gaga’s 2 and ½-hour performance, which started 35 minutes later than scheduled and ended at only 11:35, was about an hour too long. And it’s hard to remember any performer who made an audience work so hard and so long for an encore.

Ah yes … the songs? Mostly the same whomping carpet of dance floor synth-rock you already know by heart. At its best, it produces world-class, ABBA-like hooks like the ones in Bad Romance, Judas or You and I. It can also rock pretty hard, as in Electric Chapel or Black Jesus/ Amen Fashion. Mostly, it’s Gaga singing over a harmless, pulsating Eurodisco thump.

The overall package has captured hearts. Just ask almost 14,000 delirious fans who could have stayed all night – many of them to keep getting their feelings validated and find their future looking brighter than it did Monday morning.

TraeumereiLPB

is this worth downloading?

The quality isn't that great. I recommend not listening to it with headphones (screaming fans alert!).

It's hard to light a candle, easy to curse the dark instead.
