Back in the day US artists could easily break through and were even more popular than non-international ones. Nowadays in some European countries it’s so hard for a US pop song to chart high, especially for female artists. For example here in my country, two weeks ago there weren’t ANY non-Hungarian artists in our top 40 singles chart. Every country here has their own star artists and could care less about what the US offers nowadays. Those Abra peaks are actually amazing if you take that into consideration. I am not sure what this proves though. You seem to be providing an explanation as to why its harder for a US single to dominate. All this means is she did well given the new climate and circumstances Legitimate an explanation as it may be, the point is its still dominating less than those mentioned singles and thus also getting less streams? That was kind of the context in which this came up. Edited Wednesday at 02:24 PM by Economy

That was kind of the context in which this came up. All I’m saying is that WW peaks tend to be lower nowadays compared to 10 or 20 years. Just think about the fact that when a big domestic artist releases an album in this straming era, they can easily snatch half of the top 10, maybe even more, thus pushing down other songs. Back in the day an artist had one single charting maybe two and that was it. Other fact is back in 2010 most charts were single sales only or sales+airplay charts. People had to be actually invested in the song or the artist and actually pay money for it. Now its all about streaming playlist placements and autoplay deals. Also male artists are favored as well. Abra would have higher peaks everywhere if charts were somewhat like they used to be. Streaming made most charts useless imo. DWAS broke all kinds of streaming records and still have a #16 peak in Italy for example. Like that would mean it wasn’t a big hit there, but in reality the reason is that all those quick little domestic streaming artists pushed it down. That would have never happened in 2010 with people most probably mass buying on iTunes and nonstop playing on the radio.

Not trying to interrupt the convo, but that was certainly true for Abra. In the non streaming era, Kendrick's Superbowl performance would not have resulted in him charting a bunch of songs in the top ten (I think it was five songs) during Abra's first full week of charting. Abra would have been a top ten hit and all the ridiculous nonsense about her not having a solo hit would be over. 3 1

Abra peaked higher than DWAS in many countries streaming charts tho. Now many would consider Judas as one of Gaga's classics and we know its chart performance...
