Backstreet Boys singer sued Florida over trespassers sunbathing on beach

Backstreet Boys singer Brian Littrell has sued a Florida county - where he and his family have a beach house - over trespassers.

In his complaint, filed June 19, the 50-year-old claims the Walton County Sheriff's Office are not helping control trespassers sunbathing on his private Santa Rosa Beach property.

Under his company's LLC, 'BLB Beach Hut,' Littrell filed a writ of mandamus - a court order compelling a public official to perform a legally mandated duty.

 

Littrell was 'forced to hire security to protect [his family],' and that he even filled out a 'Walton County Trespass Authorization Form' back in April, authorizing the sheriff to 'warn' and 'prosecute' anyone who remained on the property after being told to leave.

The singer claims that the sheriff 'made it clear that his office would not' go to the property to 'protect the Littrell family' despite their 'numerous requests' that the law be enforced.

The document cites past dates that Littrell has requested police officer help - including once on May 4, when an officer allegedly stated he 'doesn't agree with private beaches' and described upholding BLB's constitutional rights as 'lunacy.' 

In another instance, on June 5, 2025, Littrell writes that trespassers committed a 'battery and theft' after BLB's property manager showed them documentation proving that it was private property. The trespassers responded by 'yanking a folder' out of the manager's hands and scattering the papers into the wind across the beach.
"BLB personnel contacted the Sheriff at 1:58 pm, 2:41 pm, and again at 3:02 pm regarding the aggressor on its property, however the Sheriff's Department refused to send any officer to the Subject Property. When BLB personnel contacted the Sheriff for the third time to request an officer again, the 911 operator simply hung up on BLB personnel rather than dispatching the officer that was requested more than an hour prior." source
 

It appears this feud has been an issue since the couple gained ownership of the three-bedroom, three-and-a-half bathroom home in February 2023.

A video that went viral  in April 2023 showed footage of Littrell and his wife arguing with beach goers about property lines.

If it’s legally his private beach and it’s documented, it doesn’t matter one bit who agrees/disagrees, likes/dislikes, etc.  What am I missing here?  

I can certainly see those folks being taken aback by the orders to leave.   They aren’t used to such.   This isn’t called “The Redneck Riviera” for nothing.

But how can a public space be legally his private property? It doesn't make any sense 

And if in fact there's sand space inside his property, why isn't it fenced or something? If there's no delimitation it's very difficult for people to know if it's really a public space or a private one
