Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic has stated that Serbia has been secretly rearming its military in recent years, with the goal of significantly boosting its capabilities to ensure national freedom and security, BGNES repoirts.

According to him, the Serbian Armed Forces are now stronger than ever, and the extent of the country’s new military capabilities has been deliberately kept under wraps. “Few people know what weapons we’ve brought in. We’ve done it in secret,” he said.

Vucic pointed to a growing defense alignment between Kosovo, Albania, and Croatia, claiming that the three countries are “creating a military alliance” and have repeatedly encouraged Bulgaria to join their efforts.

In this context, he argued, Serbia is compelled to reinforce its own military strength.

As someone who is part Serbian I am upset by this. I am tired of the hate we get, and our government has a massive share of the blame. Vucic was doing a very good job at normalizing relations between multiple Balkan countries, and now he wants to cause problems. I don't agree with how some in Croatia idolize the Ustashe, and how some in Albania push for Greater Albania, but these are mostly extremist politicians and chronically online nationalists. Him choosing to do this only makes the problem of nationalism worse. Glory to the Serbian student protesters.

What alliance does he expect to have to counter this anyway? Relations with Montenegro have improved, but have still not normalized enough for an alliance again. Greece loves Serbia, but they're in NATO so they can't do much. Relations with Romania have never recovered fully after the 90s and 00s (they are also in NATO). Bosnia and Herzegovina is self explanatory. This leaves the Republic of North Macedonia, but they have way too many of their own territorial issues, and Serbia would never do something that goes against Greece.

As a Bulgarian this is terrifying…

You've seen all that happened with non-NATO member Ukraine just because its in close proximity, now imagine a NATO, EU and Schengen country being attacked, that'd be suicide

He is a raging lunatic and fearmonger. I don't trust any words that come out of his mouth. His approval plummeted and every couple of weeks there are protests against him and the government. He can't do anything because it will just make the people even more angry.

For those who don't know, our country is in shambles. There is virtually no section of the government that works, and he is only staying in power thanks to bribes and fraudulent elections. Recently, massive student-led protests have set off a wave of hope that his tyranny might come to an end. Roughly 500k people were protesting in Belgrade on March 15th and this number can definitely get bigger if they keep saying stupid **** like this.

Until then, this is Elvira saying unpleasant dreams.

If they come for Croatia, both of our countries will crumble harder than ever before, our economy is literally hanging on by a thread already

The population is shrinking, young men don't even want to serve mandatory military duty, let alone in a war.  So who will be even willing to fight it?? You saw what the last war did to our country, lets not idealize participating in a war, we have enough problems as it is

We should build bridges with Serbia, because the people are actively fighting to make the change happen

Overall, the relations are neutral to good, but a sore point between the 2 countries that became more visible after the 90s is related to the linguistic and cultural rights of the Romanian speakers in Timok Valley.

They lack education and media access in their mother tongue – Romania said is open to block Serbia's EU ascension on this basis.

Vucic repeatedly promised he will improve their rights and did exactly nothing. :spin:
