  1. 1. Is Sabrina Carpenter's album cover satire or not? Anonymous poll

    • No, it is serious and classical marketing. She trades séxiness for fame.

    • Yes, it is satire. She mocks and criticizes the power of men

    • It is satire of the satire. She secretly criticizes wannabe-feminists who give lessons in female empowerment on Mondays but present their bodies to the male gaze on Saturdays and happily make money from men with double standards

Some people think her new album cover is just satire. What do you think? Vote in the poll. :staymad:

Personally, I think that some fans tell themselves this so that they are in sync with their high values, but that the cover is actually meant seriously. Satire is a cheap excuse, in my opinion. Well, it could be satire, but it could also be satire of satire, because Sabrina once said that people complain about sêxiness, but in the end, sêxiness is the most successful, and that she tried a variety of things at the beginning and then just gave people what they wanted. So three options to choose from.

I think in American Pop almost everything is actually hyperséxualized and the cover fits in with that and is actually only a bit shocking. Think Miley Cyrus' Wrecking Ball was more shocking. One can like it without telling oneself things but one can also not like it because one would have wished for something else.

Ayesha was on an adventure with 5 French DJs in one night and blóws harder than hurricane Milton, to give people some fresh air on their hot vacation in Florida  :selena: Compared to that, Sabrina still is moderate.

Weather its satire or not, the album cover itself is not problematic. I find her entire image more problematic than the album cover. Do people really think consensual power play dynamics are problematic?

I wonder if the same people that criticize that would say the same about, let's say, BDSM

I just find gays who are degrading men over and over, I mean, ya'll have haus of taste threads and participating in an online orgy and ejaculation over shirtless men, but you don't seem to see the problem in that and how you are degrading these men.

So it might be a satire or a marketing, but it's her choice and she is in this cover, participating in this act by 100% consent, so if she's not feeling degraded, then nobody should tell her that.. that's feminism, that is empowerment.

So sploosh your juice all over me you Riverboy

Her music makes it clear its satire. Satire of herself and her terrible taste in men that results in them treating her like **** and taking advantage of her before she drops them.

Please, please, please/good graces/dumb & poetic/sharpest tool/man child/bed chem/slim pickins/juno/lie to girls/couldnt make it any harder.

Like her entire gimmick and stance is beyond obvious if you actually engage with her content.

With all that being said - if you have to explain satire you've missed the mark. I think she's swung and missed this particular instance. But some folks are showing a real lack of critical thinking skils or media literacy with some of the accusations they throw her way.

Why is it even a conversation? Why can't women do what we want? Why does it matter? All of this outrage over her album cover is just right wing/misogonistic propaganda repackaged to further control women's bodies and how we dress and act.

It's not satire and that's okay.

We've all seen videos of what she does on tour - she shouldn't have to explain herself as satire so she doesn't get cancelled.

If you don't like it, don't listen to her music. I don't like her, that's why she's blocked on my Spotify. Easy fix.

Which is interesting because most people who are criticizing her are Progressive Gen Z and Feminists! Im so confused how they out of all people are being sex negative and using misogynistic religious talking points.
