Gaga Acknowledges Taylor Swift's Musical Artistry

I always know (as a fan for years) that most of the time, it's intentional/deliberate when you were immediately reminded of someone in Gaga's songs/videos.

With How Bad Do U Want Me, Gaga perfectly encapsulates the Taylor Swift 'essence' (the lyricism, the production, enunciation, the theme). I only know a handful of TS songs but I was immediately reminded of her when i heard HBDUWM. Yes, I'm aware that Gaga already released bubblegum/light pop songs in the past but for me, they're not Taylor-esque.

It's like Gaga's acknowledging that Taylor Swift already has a 'distinct' kind of sound in the field of music.

It maybe kind of dramatic but I think it's a big deal because Gaga mostly references pre-2000s legends (MJ with Shadow of a Man, Whitney, Madonna, Prince, Bowie, etc.).

Many people outside Taylor's fanbase still belittle her musicianship (calling her songs as only about her exes) and I'm sure this is Gaga's way of cheering her up. But that's just me.:huntyga:

P.S For some reason (I'm not even a TS stan), her outfit on Killah and the way she marches during HBDUWM screams Taylor's snake outfit and the marching band outfit from one of her tours. Yes, I might be reaching at this part. :messga:

Thoughts? :ally:

I'm still loving this LG ❤️ TS saga.

I think you're reaching a lil bit (a lot), but I still think they should duet for HBDUWM. Forget the charts, even if the song debuts in Bubbling Under and it's a complete flop: it would be a fun moment in pop culture.

A lot of duets collabs feel forced, and you can easily tell it was a label decision (Iggy/Britney, Shakira/Rihanna, Nicki/Cardi, etc). But this one simply makes sense, musically and conceptually wise. I'm not even a Taylor Swift fan, but she just fits the song, and it would be the biggest pop collab... of the decade I think.

Tbh, nah I think of The Fame and me being in HS in 2009 when I hear HBDUWM. It has such echoes of her early career. She no doubts respects Taylor Swift’s artistry, however.

If anything it’s a “Taylor Swift song” that’s been majorly improved with actual vocals.

Not sure about that.

I just know they are cool with each other. Gaga never bad mouths Taylor. And Taylor reciprocated by not doing anything during the MAYHEM release week that could take it away from her. Cos we all know she can if she wanted to.

I love both Taylor and Gaga but I think that it's sad that ppl view this song only as a Taylor-like song... :/

I think Gaga took inspiration from Taylor on purpose but Gaga does this very oftenly, the thing is that she got a unique signature that makes these songs hers. :vegas:

I think that she voluntarily took inspiration from Taylor for the lyricism even if she appropriated it for herself with her own technics of writing. I mean, HBDYWM is a part of Mayhem cause it uses the same goth litterature refs (with the double personality) and the post-modernist process of writing (blurry narration).

But the sonorities are inspired by the 80s, and more especially of "You" from Yazoo. 80s synth-pop ballads are the main source of inspiration of Taylor. Her song The cure is sonically very similar to HBDYWM.

Vocally, yeah we can hear that she might wanted to imitate her prononciation and voice, I mean she imitated the voice of so many other singers. And she said it several times. But Gaga generally experiments and plays with her voice voluntarily to push her limits and to have fun. Since this era, she really exploited very well her voice. Her theatrality and personas extands to her voice technics. She uses more variations with her voice than Taylor on this song.

For the outfits, I agree that the one looks a bit similar. But the second is inspired by French revolutionary and corsair outfit. Gaga's outfit also got an alternative version without the leg covered.

Anyway the concept of snake climbing on Taylor as people arouse her anger and the wolf covering more and more Stefani as she turns as her Lady Gaga persona, are similar. 🖤🖤🖤

Taylor Swift is the most influential musician of all time. There would be no Lady Gaga without Taylor Swift. I'm sure we can all agree that

and werewolves are eating snakes for breakfast :Cautious:

It's not an acknowledgement to Taylor, these songs were here before she shook it off, these songs were so common in the 80s-00s, the bubblegum pop songs by the young girls singing about a guy they love.

Even the lyrics "You're so f-cked up with your crew" is soooo 90s inspired.

It's more Baby One More Time-like song than any Taylor song.

the fact that these songs are now associated to Taylor just shows her lack of artistry, because they are very generic pop love songs that every pop girl can sing.

Thanks for your insightful comment.

Yeah, she always adds her own twist when taking inspiration from other artists, and I admire that from her.
