Honestly the visuals aint visualising for me.
But I feel like complaining the album "has no plot" is a bit of a wild one. Lots of albums are plotless.

Idk, given that it’s billed as a visual album and had a series of interludes, I feel like critiquing it for a lack of thematic continuity isn’t really that out of pocket

they're complaining about the film I think ratehr than the album but I might be wrong.

The album is good, the songs are great, the mixing/production is subpar sadly and it drags everything down. Fully disagree with the complaint in the article the album does not have "a hit". Not everything needs to be about trying to get a hit each time. The album has a clear sound/identity and it's very cohesive.

The only downside is the visuals are pretty bland and shouldn't really exist. @NemoMyName comparing this to Beyoncé is the wildest thing and I'm worried about your eyesight. None of the videos in Beyoncé's album were as mundane as these... Pretty Hurts even had a plot to it, as did Jealous and a few others. And Haunted was its own thing.

Reject False Icons

I absolutely believe that if End of the world had been a hit the critics would be much more benevolent with the album overall :patrizia:

the sad reality of not pulling up an era on time is that everything will fall down on a domino effect, hopefully Miley’s fan base can actually at least help the era not fall that deep

but it’s also what irks me about Miley, idk if it’s her decision or her management’s but she poorly promotes her latest albums, she tapes everything in advance and don’t give life to her eras, if it wasn’t for Flowers, would ESV had been a successful era???

The obsession with "hits" needs to end already because who ****ing cares if anything "hits" or not

… mainstream artists, their teams, and their labels care… Miley isn’t some indie artist lol

The music hits though, this one didn't.

tbh Flowers smashed but the album wasn’t it… (not a fan of flowers either and i think the only reason it blew up was because of the narrative of her past romance) :Cautious: the direction she’s after now just ain’t it :sue: Plastic Hearts was her last iconic era :vegas:

I feel like it is because its conflating visual album and concept album.

Like this is the only time a Beyonce comparison is accurate - Beyonce self titled was a visual album, but Pink Floyd The Wall was a concept album with a visual.

For a while now Something Beautiful the film has been promoted as a series of music videos and since the first release the ai miley captions were pretty clear the concept was *fashion*.

I fully agree the videos/film is basic af. But I just feel like complaining about plot is deliberately ignoring the signs and driving off the road.

Yeah, but Miley actually explicitly said the visual album (which is intended to debut as a film) was inspired by Pink Floyd’s The Wall. I agree that visual album =\= concept album, but her suggesting that it’s inspired by one of the most famous concept albums and then debuting the visual album as a film at the Tribeca Film Festival is definitely sending mixed messages if she doesn’t want it to be judged in that way.

I mean Miley wants to be lol

She does minimal promo. The start of this era she wasn't even the one making social media posts for the album. She doesn’t like touring and its only in this era she's blaming health rather than actually not liking it. Dead petz is not an album a mainstream artist releases if they care.

Honestly Flowers is the first time since Malibu that her music has felt designed for charting rather than her usual flavour of "I just wanted to do x/y/z"
