Miley Cyrus says she spent all budget for "Something Beautiful" film on clothes

Miley’s releasing a film to go with her album and admitted that she had a “big dream” and actually a “pretty good budget” for the film, but “spent it all on my clothes.”

She also pointed out that it’s not a movie:

"Because a movie has a point. Not that this doesn’t quite have a point, but I feel like there’s a A, B, and C and the whole point of a movie is just to get to C. You know, and I don’t like when I can assume what C is because then I can just skip the whole thing.

So, this one, the good news about it is there’s not really so much of the synopsis because the music is the story. Every song is storytelling essentially — talking about, you know, being from Nashville and growing up around country music. That’s how stories get told. They’re around a campfire with an acoustic guitar, and so even though this has become very kind of psychedelic and, you know, over the top for everything that I do, but at the end of it, really the heart of it is the just the music — is the storytelling.

So there was no need for characterization because I’m the character and I never want to become something or someone that I’m not. So, basically yeah.

Basically my movie has no story.

You have to manage the expectations. The reason it's a film is because of our technicalities that we're using. It is one hour. "

I thought she would be able to get the clothes for free?

As in brands would let her use the couture? That's usually the case at least, unless she used this project to buy the clothes for her own closet lol

I almost bought tickets for this, so glad I didn't lmao. That seems kinda silly to me idk. An hour long music video of just shots of her in different clothes is not a movie imo.

Anyway I'll check it out when it releases anyway and maybe I'll eat my words :)

Looking forward to the music

It’s basically what Beyoncé did for Lemonade and was very nice to watch so i’m still hyped by the project even if the music don’t hype me that much this time

Well no lemonade very clearly had a narrative and it was a fairly complex one. The narrative was almost purely an emotional one, though, rather than a plot one. I would say whatever this is sounds closer to self titled if you watched it back to back to back.

Exactly i don't completely Remember since its been a while bit my take was that It was about betrayal and not Just on a personal level but as a story that goes beyond her, something that She inherited?? Anyways theres clearly a strong suggestion of a narrative. I love how you put, emotional arrative.  Beautiful

This is the strangest messaging I’ve ever seen to promote something. You usually sell what it is, “it’s a vibe, it’s a celebration of my new music with couture, it’s a visual feast etc”. Not focus on shortcomings “I need to manage expectations.  There’s no story.  I spent all the budget in just clothes”. This is hilarious.its like her spent budget also left no room for a PR and marketing team.

Yeah basically the story is her emotionally dealing with the cheating and coming to understand that this is something Black women have dealt with generationally and trauma itself is something passed down to Black people generationally. It’s something she learns in trying to consider why and how he could cheat on her despite all that she’d given as a woman, wife, and mother. Then we conclude with her coming to understand that what feels right but isn’t easy is to forgive and make mends if she’s going to break the cycle of trauma passed down so it doesn’t go to her children and she can be happy. But notably the story does not end happily. It ends hopefully that it can come after resolution. I think that last part gets forgotten but is critical to understanding the point of lemonade. It’s not forgive and forget; it’s forgive to find a way forward. And tbh it’s such an impactful story bc it encapsulates so many of the themes of Beyoncé’s discography up until that point from DC til then. It’s a landmark for how it basically sees her tackling her own life’s legacy up until then. Idk if she was aware of that part but that is definitely part of why it hits the way it does.

like ns to Miley but I don’t think she’s doing something on this level of thoughtfulness :laughga:

Much closer to the B'Day and Self titled visual albums, honestly. Lemonade was a lot more narrative driven and couldn't be cherry picked. This is basically just music videos loosely strung together as a film, which is still fine and fun.
