So many people have claimed that the Handmaid's Tale comparisons are hyperbole, but as you pointed out, this is a literal plot line. They intentionally didn't save the mother because they were afraid of the risk to the fetus, who, as I understand it, doesn't have great chances of surviving anyway. 

As someone with a uterus who lives in the US, this is why my anxiety is spiking. Fortunately, I live in a state where abortion is legal (for now).

Totally. This whole thing reeks about medieval obscurantism rules and religion bullsh*t. It's also scary af. Being a woman and potential mother in this world and in some parts of US rn means instant migration. I empathize.

This is honestly so disgusting. Like the parent's can't even mourn their own daughter, they are stressed about having to pay God knows how much money to keep her in the hospital againts everyones will. And then there's the baby.. like how is that child properly developing since the mother is brain dead? I'd imagine theres certain processes that would involve a working brain from the mother? 

Like the most humane thing would have been to let the mother die, if they couldn't save her. This way the parents and her loved ones are suffering, then there's the factor that the child will be motherless, the family will somehow have to give up more effort and finances to the child, while in debt from keeping a basically dead human in the hospital for a year. Lile truly I cannot believe what these conservatives are up to with such laws amd bans. Truly inhumane, disgusting and sometimes from a horror or psychological thriller.

this.  the second that baby is born, they don't give a sh*t about it.  all they care about is forcing others to play their game.
