Lady Gaga Brings Down the House at YouTube Upfront and Says She’s a Relentless ‘Rehearser’ Gearing Up for World Tour (EXCLUSIVE)

Lady Gaga brought the house down at the YouTube Upfronts, reminding the world why she remains a singular force in music and performance. Her show-stopping appearance at YouTube’s annual Brandcast event captivated the crowd from the moment she took the stage.

The entire audience waited anxiously for Mother Monster’s entrance. At one point during the presentation — while Volvo’s Global Chief Marketing Officer, Gretchen Saegh-Fleming, was discussing the company’s return on investment in advertising with YouTube — Gaga could be heard warming up backstage, preparing for what would become a standout moment of the night.

In the lead-up to the event, a private dress rehearsal was held for only a select few — offering invitees an exclusive glimpse into the meticulous artistry Gaga brings to every performance. Behind closed doors, she and her band worked tirelessly to perfect the setlist, fine-tuning transitions, vocal runs, and instrumental cues. Even in rehearsal, the energy was electric. Music echoed through the halls of David Geffen Hall at Lincoln Center, prompting even the green room guests to pause and take it in.

When Gaga took the stage, the event to promote advertising opportunities turned into a mini-concert that left the lucky attendees on their feet, teasing the level of spectacle fans can expect on her upcoming global tour.

The multi-hyphenate icon took over the storied venue with a five-song set that left the industry crowd electrified — and afterward, opened up to Variety in an exclusive backstage interview.

Backed by a sleek, cinematic stage design and her unmistakable vocal firepower, Gaga delivered powerhouse numbers of “Abacadabra,” “Perfect Celebrity,” “How Bad Do You Want Me,” and the haunting ballad “Vanish Into You,” all from her latest chart-topping album. One of the most emotional moments of the evening came when she performed a solo version of “Shallow” from “A Star Is Born” (2018), the track that earned her an Oscar for Best Original Song and her first Academy Award nomination for best actress.

It was a bold mix of hits and fan favorites that showcased Gaga’s range as both a pop provocateur and emotional storyteller. “I was so happy they let me sing songs from the album,” Gaga tells Variety, referring to her recent genre-blending set.

But the night wasn’t just about her star power — it was also deeply personal for the Grammy winner. Sitting in the audience were her mother, her fiancé, and longtime manager Bobby Campbell.

“Playing Geffen Hall was a dream come true,” she says. “To perform in that space, was just magical.”

Known for her tireless work ethic, Gaga now calls herself a relentless “rehearser.”

She’s been preparing daily, shaping every detail of her upcoming tour — which kicks off in July — with precision and passion.

Judging by her performance at Brandcast, Gaga’s next chapter is already in motion — and fans should expect nothing short of spectacular.

Is she seriously performing a whole other show for MAYHEM BALL?

Insane work ethic.

she's really hinting that that mayhem ball will be different from the previous shows (copacabana, coachella & mexico), this is great news for those who were a bit dissapointed mayhem ball might be the same. :vegas:

She's really pulling all the stops this era. :bradley:

I still don't think we should be expecting a whole new show for the tour (let's not set ourselves up for disappointment yet again)

But if it is?? That's crazy, superhero antics.

This is my Hannah Montana™️ lipgloss.

I hate to sound ridiculous but I expect a different show for the tour.

I hope the opening number stays or at least the Abracadabra to Judas transition. I loved the sandbox and Paparazzi costume. Plus the Paparazzi chess game performance.

I expect a Mayhem piano. All new costumes. No skeleton dance for Zombieboy. Plus a few songs from ARTPOP and Chromatica.

She ravamped the Monster Ball in a few weeks but kept some elements so I’m pretty confident it won’t be the same show.

Well she did say she wanted to do an arena tour as you can control the details of the show in a way you can't do in stadiums. So I've always thought it would be a bit different to the current one.

Everyone that would go to a Gaga tour would have watched Coachella / Cobacabana show multiple times by now, so there is no way that would be the tour.

I'm still expecting an updated version of the Coachella show, but I'm certainly not going to complain if she creates a wholly different show for the MAYHEM Ball. For the fans expecting something 100% brand new, I think it's just better to set your expectations low. Not that the Coachella show is bad—I genuinely believe it's one of the best shows she's ever created—but it's better to be pleasantly surprised.

I mean, she also has casual fans...Not everyone is watching Coachella or Copacabana multiple times.

Also, the experience of watching a live stream vs actually living the show is entirely different.

Im happy she's happy but that crowd was so dead I felt bad :cryga:

Tbh there were a lot of tech bros and business people there, so having them stand up and taking their phones out to record her could be considered a complete success. :ladyhaha:

maybe it will borrow some elements but i really doubt it will be the same now, especially after this interview.
