Cannes Film Festival bans see-through outfits and long trains from red carpet

There’s a big wardrobe change happening at the upcoming Cannes film festival.

The festival starts on Tuesday, with French director Amélie Bonnin's Leave One Day opening the films screened on the Croisette.

But for stars walking the red carpet at Cannes, there’s a new dress code – which prohibits “nudity”.

“For decency reasons, nudity is prohibited on the red carpet, as well as any other area of the festival,” states a Cannes festival document.

“The festival welcoming teams will be obligated to prohibit red carpet access to anyone not respecting these rules.”

It's understood that the iconic venue now adopts a more conservative dress code, with suits, dinner jackets, and floor-length evening gowns generally favoured over headline-grabbing ensembles. 

Classic little black dresses, cocktail dresses, pant-suits, dressy tops, and elegant sandals, 'with or without a heel', will also be permitted.  

In previous years, there have been some iconic barely-there dresses worn by celebrities – including a cut-out dress worn by Bella Hadid, where only a Schiaparelli lung necklace was covering her chest. 

As well as banning nudity, Cannes is also prohibiting “voluminous dresses” with large trains for traffic flow reasons.

i mean tasteful (partial) nudity is quite rare in red carpets so it could be all good but why does this feel regressive lol.

also when i first read the title i thought nudity would be banned in films. though im not sure if that's not already the case.

Tbh it's so rare on red carpets... 

They do like the Kanye west gf, try to make it shocking rather than a great look and the next day no one discusses the movies but the most naked one among all the ones who tried hard.
