Waiting for the standom to come around defending her with "well, you know, Rosa Parks wasn't really that big in Asia and she just doesn't know her" :huntyga::brat:

I don't know this woman, and I don't care that much about this "controversy". I'll wait for people to care about my national heroes that much.

You forgot not everyone is as independent andcourageous as Lady Gaga in speaking  their mind :ohwell:

lol you don’t have to be all that courageous to tell your designer “this isn’t something I am comfortable wearing”

let’s not act like it was some impossible, terrifying task :ladyhaha:

🇨🇺🇧🇸 monica from rhoslc kinda had a point

Why would a Thai girl even know about her? I only know about Rosa Parks because of the bus jokes on Drag Race. :poot: Not saying this is right or anything. It’s definitely on Pharrell’s putting her face in somebody’s ***.

Seems like the print is part of an entire bustier and not just panties. Either way, I suggest people to direct their criticism towards Pharrell if they have a problem with it.

Not some of y'all taking this opportunity to let everyone know you weren't aware of Rosa Parks like that means anything here :laughga:

Louis Vuitton representative explained that the print was created by American artist Henry Taylor and depicts “portraits of figures who have been a part of the artist’s life.” The motif was originally commissioned by creative director Pharrell Williams for his debut spring 2024 collection for Louis Vuitton, the rep said.

It is relevant though. I couldn't begin to care less about Lisa, and I celebrate everytime she gets dragged because I hate Blackpink's music :vegas:

But with that being said, the most likely scenario is that she had no idea who Rosa Parks was, and if a black man from the United States designed the piece, and he told her it was a positive statement of some sorts, then... realistically she wouldn't question him. I mean, he should know better, right? if that's how he wants to represent his own demographic, who is she to question him? :laughga: she probably thought it was a cool statement and didn't give it another thought. I assume she thought it was a way to "amplify" or highlight important black figures, and that was it, lol.

Do I think it's tacky? yes, but clearly the designer meant for it to be empowering. I see the vision, the execution was just... questionable :ladyhaha:

I think ~ the placement~ is what makes it off putting, if it was on the chest area, or the sleeves, etc, it wouldn't be as problematic. Like, sure, it's a vain event, and it's absolutely performative, etc, but still, it was designed by a black man, and he probably meant good.

I just wish he didn't placed it on the coochie, but whatever :icant:

I hear you. At the end of the day, I don't think this is a huge deal; just not-so-great optics at a particularly inopportune moment for her.

But stepping into her shoes: I'd probably want to learn at least some touchstone history of the culture I've been assigned in my girl group to emulate (being the main rap girl, the dancer, and the one who talks at length about the streetwear the girls use). Rosa would probably be among the first 10 people she'd come across. And I definitely wouldn't be wearing the faces of people I don't know when I'm going to be photographed and analyzed across the world.
