I think even Gaga herself looks back on this era knowing how many dumb things she did - I.e. performing inside a Doritos vending machine and her response to it on the lie detector video.

Did she really perform inside a Doritos vending machine? I thought in the lie detector video they just said she wanted to.

thing is that little monsters, as a group of fans that label themselves as such, seems to be one extremely hard to please. there's always something off that they don't agree with until they notice that Gaga worked it flawlessly and is being praised, then they start agreeing with it.

like the Enigma residency, I don't consider it perfect at all, but no matter how many things could have been done better back there, I still get chills from watching her perform a set of songs that to this date she hasn't performed again other than there, like Dance in The Dark, Government Hooker, The Fame, Beautiful Dirty Rich..

that opening as simple as it is still looks iconic with her flying across the theatre. And don't even tell me about the Scheiße/Judas masterpiece of performance. that giant robot + bodysuit with lighting shoulder pads, legend. I mean, that concert happened nearly 6+ years ago, and no matter how much the GP or the fanbase received it, it still resonates. just look at what other girlies have been doing since, the aesthetic, the storytelling, the concepts.

of course, we must have our own thoughts and subjective views regarding anything, and exercise critical thinking, unlike most fans do. but some stuff just does not sit well and comes through as inauthentic, specially considering we are talking about THE Lady Gaga, an artist that has proven the world countless times we will never know what she has to deliver, and that's the joy of loving her.

This performance has always been a strong reminder to me that not only is she a pop superstar, Lady Gaga is true punk rocker at heart.

The meaning behind Swine the song itself along with this performance, the way she screams a declaration that she won't play by the rules of pop culture. She was BEYOND brave for doing this number. Brave for expressing and channeling such a horribly dark experience into performance art, and brave for doing it knowing there would be people that would be disgusted by it. As evidenced by the horrible comments made about it. And to the people that were disgusted, that was exactly the point.

During ARTPOP I myself was going through some very difficult things. And to see her going through her own difficulties at the same time and turning that pain into art and expression no matter what anyone would think of it, that was POWERFUL. This will always be a performance I admire and respect her for doing.

👹 Dance or die.

Regardless, this REMAINS my favorite Gaga performance.

Swine was such a goddamn gift :bradley:

I totally agree.   My favorite Gaga performance too.  Performance art to the max.  The word "amazing" is totally inadequate to describe this entire performance.  Yes, Swine, and so much more.  I cried throughout Dope.  Her words between songs are so moving.  And her words before Gypsy are like gold, and reveal the greatness, love, and compassion that lies within her heart.  This performance reveals as much about Gaga as a person as it does about Gaga as an artist.

I live outside the space time continuum.

Most of those comments are fine tbh

That said, I’ve always loved how bold the performance was, even though I don’t think the execution is particularly great

This was great. Granted I love performance art but I wish she pulled similar stunts more often

She can pull it off. If anyone did it, it would look extremely gross and tacky.

“If you can't handle it log off, please. This is CRAZY. REBELLION. Have you seen her Twitter. You people complain about everything!”

Glad to see I was on the RIGHT side of history :firega:
