I remember the first time I watched this, I was shocked and then obsessed for like a month  So much pain in a performance, and then channeling that pain like this? whew.

Not the biggest fan of ARTPOP as an album, but this particular performance was fantastic.  It's one of my favorite moments of the entire ARTPOP era, tbh.

Lady Gaga has always been inspired by heavy metal, and there's a LOT of metal groups that use these "shocking" theatrics in their shows.  Stuff like this is why there's so many metalheads out there who love Gaga.

I also think that she picked the perfect crowd for that performance.

It was my favorite about it . I liked the puke performance a lot . 

The song was about sexual abuse, and how disgusted it made her feel, that she found herself in the position of exchanging sexual favors for a shot in the music business. It's about how she felt exploited, and her resentment towards the man who put her in that position. 

"Vomit" is a very logical, valid metaphor for the idea that she was trying to represent, and reducing it to "glamorizing bulimia" is such a stupid interpretation, that only speaks of how unintelligent Demi is, I'm sorry . I could give her a pass if she had no context, but then again, if she had no context, she shouldn't have been running her mouth on Twitter, about a performance she clearly did not understand . 

I do disagree, however, with the idea of condemning those who disliked it. It's just a musical performance, if some people didn't like it, that's their prerogative, who gives a shït .

Honestly I never liked this performance... her vocals were not the usual we get from her, she looked very high and very angry. And I also never liked the vomit, but I think this is my first time saying it. I always supported Gaga even with stuff I wasn't a big fan of.

It wasn't litteral vomit, it was painting. I mean yeah we have different sensitivities but blaming her for an artistic choice wtf

Also if you think that thread was bad, you should look up the original ARTPOP release thread. Easily one of the most disgusting things I’ve ever seen on this site. It’s the same thread where Emma (Og disabled fan whom Gaga named her wheelchair after when Gaga had her hip injury and then ended up gifting Emma the wheelchair. She was a mod here around that time) was calling out people’s behavior and decided to quit the site over it. I’m pretty sure it’s the same thread that made Gaga quit using ggd for a really long time and contributed to her breakdown

I didn’t know Emma used to be a mod! 

I wasn't here during the ARTPOP era, but the truth is that even today there are many malicious comments disguised as innocent opinions. Some people insist on disrespecting Gaga’s work on a website dedicated to her and this is such a twisted way of behaving. It's not about liking everything she does, but about respecting and choosing the right words to express opinions. Some members here haven't learned the basics of respecting others!

THANK YOU for making this thread because I was watching this last night wondering if I could find everyone's reaction to it from back then. I was a member here and watched the stream but don't remember much about the comments everyone made so I'll dig into that later. ARTPOP era was truly a difficult time because Gaga was clearly in her lowest point, fired her manager and just wanted to give the world a taste of all the anger she had inside.

Swine is truly a gem in her discography and one of the most important songs on ARTPOP. It's really funny looking back at this when Lady Starlight and her friends go on stage and she's like "And now because we were told we have to we're gonna do a song called Applause". No wonder she doesn't even want to include this in recent concerts, she's just done with that era and all of the stuff she was forced to do / change or got screwed up for.

She was probably more bit over "Applause" at the point. She performed the hell out of that song. No joke check youtube so many 2013/2014 performances of it.

True but still, Gaga and DJ White Shadow said Applause wasn’t even going to be included on the album at all but Troy picked it as lead single and made the cut. 

Applause got heavy promo and she wanted the rest of the album to have it’s moment to shine so no wonder she was exhausted.

Oh, you missed the ARTPOP fun . Back then, EVERYTHING she did, was condemned in here . 

For example: they were obsessed with the fact that Katy was "winning" in the charts, and wanted for GaGa to have a new "Bad Romance". The album was not out yet, so they were all complaining that "Venus" should have been single, because the song was described by journalists as "a sure hit".

So they were fantasizing that "Venus" would have performed better than "Applause", however when "Venus" leaked, they were complaining that the song was too weird, and should NOT be a single . They complained about "Applause" having an odd music video, they complained about literally everything . 

It was so dense .
