StrawberryBlond 14,577
It didn't immediately strike me upon first listen but now I'm liking it more and more. Very risky of her to utilise such a controversial word (it showed up in YouTube search suggestions initially but is now "colissimo" ) and this is the most aggressive attempt at being "for the gays" but she does it well and it is actually about women, but in a way that gays could vibe to. Really like the chorus and the way it's a full circle moment when she sings "I live the American dream" (reference to her debut) and "I lived the Italian dream" (reference to Froot). I saw in a comment that the POP spelled out on her dress in the video is the acronym of Princess Of Power, so there's a nice little Easter egg for anyone who didn't like the title. Self-reference is indeed so c*nt. (she got the c*nt hoe not you ) but also kind of degrading to the lgbt community, bc it's straight women putting on the costume of queerness to be ~fierce~ in the same way white women listen to music by black women to "put on" being sexual, and white gay men "put on" the culture of black women/transwomen Here's the thing though, the gay community took existing elements and stereotypes of womanhood and co-opted them for gay slang, even when it came down to our body parts. It's so embedded in culture now that even when women act super girlie, they're told they're acting like gay men, from strutting to limp wrists. It was a woman thing before it became a gay thing, so it's ultimately ours to do use as we choose. It's gay men who are using inspiration from women and putting on the costume of hyper-femininity, which is their right to do so, but they can't forget where it came from. Regarding the most intimate body part of women, well, this was the original, official word for it but then it got changed into a word which actually is quite sexist (vagina literally means "sword sheath") but the c-word refers to the entire thing, not just internally and has nothing to do with men in its etymology. So, ironically, some feminists like to reclaim the word. Ultimately, it comes down to what @ThePopDevil said, we're the ones with the c*nts, so we can talk about them how we want without being accused to appropriation.
