DWAS always meant for mayhem

So this is just my opinion/theory.

i think DWAS was always meant for Mayhem. The album would feel incomplete without imo. The outro to blade of grass into DWAS is phenomenal. And maybe they added that in last minute who knows.

But I honestly 100% believe they didn’t promote it as a lead single because they knew a lot of fans would be PISSED !!

Im not saying this is truth, just a theory that I think makes sense from a marketing standpoint. It’s not a bad thing, I think have DWAS in this album was a VERY smart idea.
What I love most about Mayhem is that it includes something for EVERY type of Gaga fan. Which I think a lot of people were kind of hoping for with Chromatica. I think this album is her best right next to Born This Way.
Anyway, just thought I’d share that cuz I haven’t seen that theory yet. What do yall think?

I think it was apart of the same sessions but she said somewhere that DWAS replaced a ballad that was already destined for the album and she'd hopefully have a chance to share it at some point. (maybe the tour?)

Maybe this is Dead Dance? A cool concept to end Mayhem on tbh

I believe , based on what Gaga has said  Blade of grass was the end of the album. Which would have ended in Mayhem. Die with a smile was done at the end of mayhem’s process, since she said it was the final song they worked on. I think she added it in since it honestly does make sense especially with the starting lyrics.Plus sonically it makes sense especially after both blade and the beast. However, I do believe can’t stop the high should have been on the album. And they should have dropped 15 tracks. But most of her albums come out with 14 songs for some reason. I hope adding DWAS did not omit a song from the album. And if it did, here’s hoping they drop the deluxe wit the online exclusive tracks.

On Reddit they say DWAS, Medicine and Abra were a test: They looked at the chart positions and based upon their success, they determined how the rest of the album should be. Initially, they expected Abra to score higher and the album originally included more dark industrial songs like Abra. When DWAS turned out to be the most successful single, and Medicine and Abra rather underperforming (although imo they are much better than DWAS), they changed the tracklist and replaced dark industrial songs with more light, mainstream-friendly songs, more similair to DWAS since they had circa 50 of them. So DWAS was always meant as a test and Bruno Mars had the biggest impact on Mayhem.

It's the physicals for me.

If it were really added last minute, it wouldn't be pressed on vinyl. There's a lead time to these things. It's why Cowboy Carter had a different early vinyl release and Pink Friday 2 on vinyl was only 10 tracks. Everything about Mayhem feels considered and not rushed.

I think the idea was to hype people with DWAS but not make it the "lead single." It was always gonna pop because it's Gaga x Bruno. But she didn't want to lead with a country/rock ballad when she'd promised dark pop vibes on LG7. But I think it was always gonna be there.

Also, we deserve Can't Stop the High and Kill for Love on streaming. Because honestly all 16 songs are great. I get why she cut them (Can't Stop the High plays a similar role to Perfect Celebrity and Kill for Love a similar role to Shadow of a Man, so they don't feel needed but more like extra beats of the same feeling), but they are so good!

If any of the two I would have loved Kill For Love on the album, after DWAS as a closer. Leaving the album on a medium up beat, happy note

NICE ! we're finally in the "OG version" of the album era. WE MADE IT.

eeeeeeevery single time she releases an album people start with the fake rumors or a secret alternate version of the album which coincidently aligns perfectly with all of the demands little monsters have for the album :brat: also, don't forget the "evil executives" who looked at the numbers and changed everything because money and stuff :ladyhaha:

As a DWAS advocator I would love to believe that! But if so, she would've matched the video aesthetics to the album from the very beginning don't you think? Whatever it is, it's pretty obvious to me that we still don't have this issue a 100% clear
