i personally thought this song was just pretty good when she first performed it on SNL and the studio version doesn't even have that cute line about treating women right. didn't want it to flop but...lol maybe now she will give us THE ANTHEM that is THE SUBWAY

Wasn't this song performed on SNL months ago? Why didn't they release it then? The song is great, but there was no need for all this promo/build up for a song we've already heard.

Civilization was simply not advanced enough for the song back then.

I feel like Chappell is getting more hate by the day. It reminds me of 2017 Katy Perry and it makes me kinda nervous :franminervini:

Her team's timing was poor:

a) the gays are all rocking out to Mayhem

b) the momentum from her SNL performance had worn off, and by then, fans had been listening to unofficial audio of the song ripped from the SNL performance

Timing aside, it's a radical departure from her earlier sound. Following up the bop that was "Good Luck Babe!" with this was a choice.

I love her and respect her artistry, and I appreciate how she is subverting the country genre, but it's not my jam. Then again, I'm playing "Vanish Into You" 10,000 times every day.

Some people make music for the art, not the charts.

Period like… I’m sorry but if your fan culture is based on numbers we are not the same

Honestly I think this is the big one. People had heard it for months + mayhem still demanding attention. The song’s fine; it jsut came at an unfortunate moment and it doesnt sound as demanding my attention
