The Fame Monster 4,223
Listening to the album for the first time was such a strange experience. Having already heard DWAS, Disease, and Abracadabra, I was surprised by the rest of the album—it wasn’t as dark as I expected. It really was MAYHEM, a wild mix of sounds, genres, and themes. Some songs clicked with me right away, while others took a bit more time to appreciate. Now, there are only three tracks I still struggle with: Vanish Into You, Don’t Call Tonight, and The Beast—but even in those, there are parts I really like. Overall, I really enjoy the album, and my top songs right now are Garden Of Eden, Perfect Celebrity, Shadow Of A Man, and Zombieboy. Born This Way is still my all-time favourite album—no skips, even after all these years. The Fame Monster is a close second, also completely skip-free. Third place is a tie between Chromatica and MAYHEM, both of which have a couple of songs I tend to skip. I can’t wait for more live performances, because they really bring the songs to life! Guest
nothing but greatness! Though i don’t get why the album is called mayhem. It seems well-sorted to me
eddyjeddy 1,711
Honestly not being bias here but this could be a big contender for AOTY - it is a strong body of work and destroys the mould where artists need to stick to one genre sound on projects/albums - MAYHEM just proves that this can be done effectively without sticking to one genre/sound. First Initial listen (at Official Syd Listening Party) i loved Disease up to KILLAH - then i was soo shocked and confused with the direction it went after KILLAH (did not expect synths, disco/funk sound) Over the weekend relistened and streamed the f out of the album and wow - literally perfection from the production to lyricism and variety. Best Songs - Perfect Celebrity, Can't Stop The High, Abracadabra, Disease, GOE, KILLAH, LoveDrug, HBDUWM, Zombieboy, Shadow of a Man & Vanish Into You/Blade of Grass/DWAS - (gets you in the feels especially going through a break up) Least faves are - Don't Call Tonight and The Beast Strong body of work even though it might be deemed as misleading with how the vibe was teased out it still relates to the actual album. I feel like there are more darker sounds/lyricism than expected anyway plus the different colour vinyl makes sense now! 100% a love letter to her musical influences as well. Note: just love how it also seems so authentic the whole project is considering it is 'pop' and how happy and healthy she seems. SHE IS LITERALLY EVERYWHERE. 9/10 for me! Ronk 14,762
The album is the best I've heard since 1971. Sheer perfection. Upon first listen all songs were 10s with three contenders for my 11. But the songs grow on you. After second listen six songs deserved my 11. After third listen 8 songs deserved my 11. The songs keep getting better! I live outside the space time continuum.
jimmytimestep 2,686
After spending a *lot* of time with it - I’ve now streamed it an unhealthy amount of times…. It’s truly an addictive listen; when you start it’s hard to stop because of how joyful, fun, and well-paced it is. Her songwriting is some of the best of her career. Andrew Watt and Cirkut are incredible partners for her on this endeavor; because they bring the addictive sauce they’ve brought to other artists’ work without dampening Gaga’s style and tone. They feel like high-level facilitators of her vision rather than creative partners/overseers, like how BloodPop was on Chromatica. in my ranking of her albums, it sits below only BTW and L4S. Those two albums, I feel, are the only two in her discography that absolutely nail both concept and execution flawlessly. Chromatica - her highest concept album and she nails the concept but some of the songs falter. Joanne - misses both concept and execution. The FM - execution is 10/10, great songs, but the concept is so far removed from what she was selling. TF, overstuffed. C2C, beautiful work but still learning and studying the assignment. For all the hate it gets ARTPOP is probably the closest in nailing it but it gives off “pick me” vibes a lot and the songs are simply weaker in the second half. MAYHEM has some missteps, maybe *because* of the very reason it succeeds - because she is fully unencumbered as a pop artist for the first time in literal decades. She isn’t bound by her own forced concepts, she isn’t bound by her record label, she isn’t being forced into things by her manager…she’s just doing what she wants. And I think a HUGE part of what makes it so great *IS* the surprise, or what some fans call being “duped”. The last bunch of albums delivered exactly what we expected and that’s not the artist we fell in love with. Lady Gaga is not boring. MAYHEM wasn’t an instant like at first listen. The last time that happened to me with a Gaga album was Born This Way, because I thought I knew what to expect and she REALLY surprised me. I expected more techno dance pop and I got Springsteen stadium rock with a four-to-the-floor beat. Everything else she’s done delivered what I expected (with some surprises - I do distinctly remember Replay being such a surprise). for that reason, and for the songs being so hook-laden and happy and addictive - MAYHEM for me sits as her second best pop album ever (and potentially second best album overall, but it’s hard to compare it with L4S). weed 73,785
I think it's a fantastic album, Don't Call Tonight is the Teeth of the album, she tries a variety of genres and most of the songs are very personal; I hear The Fame, I hear The Fame Monster, I can hear Born This Way, ARTPOP, Joanne, A Star Is Born (perhaps the most!), Chromatica, it's a very Gaga album, it feels like... it is her 7th album. Through the music we can hear she has a long legacy, there is no artist without a lengthy distinctive career who could release this album. This album feels like.. it did not particularly have an agenda or message beyond this is: Lady Gaga.
Emvee 8,373
Can’t Stop the High should have been on the standard edition. PERIOD. I can’t believe I have search for it on YouTube in order to hear it… 1

nswain1110 3,075
I can't believe she gave this to us. Like WHAAAATT???? This album has and is EVERYTHING. It's her best by a mile. Obsessed. Can't stop listening. Hooks for days. Immaculate production. Clever lyricism. Complex musicality while making perfect sense in the tried and true pop song formulas. The bridges, the choruses, the OUTROS. She's the grand dame of Pop music. No one can touch her. ❤❤❤❤ Follow me on Instagram! https://www.instagram.com/natethetrailhunter/

Not a single skip or bad track. my only complaint is how it slows down really hard with the final tracks. Shadow coulda been the closer I was thinking about how Vanish Into You could’ve been a beautiful closer like The Edge of Glory but I really like The Beast -> Blade of Grass -> Die With A Smile. retrosexual123 862
It feels new and a classic at the same time. I think it’ll stand the test of time and become a true, classic Gaga album.
