LG8- ⚜️ (Jazz, Swing, Vaudevillian, Big Band, Theater)

concept:

title: Drama Club

lead single: Damsel in Disguise

album art: Gaga is in clown makeup in a princess costume that is busting out of knight’s armor with a crown hanging off her finger. The metaphor is that she can’t decide what she wanted to be always so she decided to play every part.

themes: It’s not duality like Mayhem, it’s plurality. The album nods at theater and piano and vocal stylings she learned as a kid in school and in drama club and unpacking what drew her to theater. Is it all an armor to protect the chaos? The album tells the story of a woman talking to her inner theater kid now that she is strong enough to ask the tough questions. I think the album has a conclusion or a story arc, too. It begins very silly and comedic and jazzy and ends in retrospective place about life using instrumentation that is more subdued and soulful.

why is it called Drama Club?

I think for Gaga there has always been a fascination literally with drama and also nightlife. It’s a play on words. Drama Club insinuates the grade school notion of where she started playing with acting and singing and creating. But it also is kind of self-aware in that it is an album about the “dramatics” some of us that are a “little bit different” (cough cough neurodivergent) might display and how spectators see us differently than we maybe saw ourselves.

I also think Gaga making an album about why she is who she is is career-wise a realistic evolution. If she wants to have kids it’s probably not far fetched to say she has thought about her own childhood and what that meant.

No thanks, no far right symbolism in Gaga’s artistry :ladyhaha:

That’s a New Orleans jazz reference. Wasn’t thinking about conservatism, rest assured.

Personally I’d like for her to release her ballads album. She seemed to wanted to do so in the past and she has had great success with ballads. Might be a good side project as well, as she did with the Jazz albums. I feel she will still want to do a big Pop album and tour again soon, given the momentum she has and while she is physically able to.  Or maybe something akin to Swift’s Eras tour.

Wait … this vision though :applause: … whether it comes to fruition or not … the vision

The album art brief low-key brought this potential plurality within apparent duality to mind
