I don't know why anyone would be surprised. Lisa isn't a passionate artist, and her idol is Rihanna. It's also pretty obvious that these signed copies were made to push sales, not as this great thing for the fans. I figured k-pop stans of all people would get the quid pro quo of it all. That said, it's been interesting to watch Lisa try to become a big pop star in the U.S., they're trying all the things that resonate with a k-pop audience - shiny videos with nothing out of place to the point of near sterility, getting her the best songs they can find, pushing her to be on the hottest show on tv, pushing her to places she has no business on (Vanity Fair Hollywood issue, the Oscars), and still, she's debuting at #7, which is good, but they clearly were going for a bigger splash with all that effort. The problem is that Blackpink was successful here because they were like the Spice Girls (all the girls had different style and you could find your favorite), but they fail as solo pop stars because having a solid identity and at least some grit stands out more than just dressing a girl up in the best clothes and giving her the best songs. Like, even Tate McCrae has some of that sense, in that she's willing to put herself out there and risk ridicule, not be completely perfect (example: that ridiculous over-the-top Y2K-themed vid where she's naked and getting arrested all ~sexily~, lol).
