rocketn9 442
The album is so good tho, I hope people will start appreciating for what it is, rather than asking for a born this way 2.0 .She has already done this and never in her career goes back to the same sound with a previous album. 10 1

This is a good review lmao Yeah overall a positive review, I think it echoes some of the sentiment on here. Fans feel misled but overall the album is still good. Honestly I think there were plenty of hints of what is going on on the album. The Fame includes Summerboy, Brown Eyes, etc and is not just Bad Romance or Just Dance. None of it is as dark as fans like to remember. I think a lot of LMs were going through dark things when her original music came out and it's more of a personal association than reality. There's a lot of The Fame scattered throughout Mayhem sonically. Fans refused to believe DWAS would fit on the album when it was included in the tracklist, which I think is a failure on fans' part. Gaga herself said she was blending a lot of genres and even listed some, all of which were included. LMs heard what they wanted and discarded or discredited the rest. And now we're here acting surprised? 2 2
elijahfan 26,798
No lie detected here Doesn't mean the album isn't great. But yeah, this was a major curveball and I was quite taken aback at first.
RaveMonster 338
Some songs in this album are The Fame and Pre-The Fame Gaga. Others are more The Fame Monster and Born This Way. Others are more ASIB. She did revisit her dark pop for some songs, it’s just not the whole album and she explicitly said the album was a bit of everything and we have had an interview where she mentioned the glam rock, Queen vocals and Bowie sounds. Some people just decided to ignore that and stick with the aesthetic of the first singles ignoring Die With a Smile was also on the album (possibly because everyone keeps saying how they were just gonna throw it in there for streams even though they have been telling us it fits the album). 4 1
REALITY 78,174
Maybe this'll get me crucified by 99% of this fanbase and forum, but I have to be completely honest here...I don't think Gaga is nearly as "dark" or "industrial" as many of you think she is. She absolutely has plenty of dark visuals, but with the exception of DITD and some songs on Born This Way, I wouldn't really call Gaga a "dark" artist. She's multifaceted and that's what this album represents. This album is most like The Fame imo, but that wasn't a "dark" album whatsoever—and it's not like y'all ever complain about a lack of darkness on that record. MAYHEM's visuals are certainly darker than what the album presents, but it's not like the album is devoid of any darkness whatsoever. Disease, Abra, Perfect Celebrity, The Beast, Zombieboy, and Killah all have elements of darkness in them. I've said this countless times, but she's said this album would have multiple genres and styles. This isn't a bait-and-switch. It's a she-told-you-what-she-was-going-to-do-and-you-ignored-it-anyway-now-you're-mad-for-no-reason. You can dislike the overall direction of the album if the funk/disco/R&B/rock stuff isn't your jam, but she didn't falsely advertise the album. There are countless fans on this forum, and also other pop forums, calling out the false marketing. And there is a reason for that. Disease, Abracadabra, Garden of Eden, Perfect Celebrity, Shadow of a Man and The Beast are all dark pop.. 4

meltedplastic 580
"Mainstream Pop star makes Mainstream Pop music for people that like Mainstream Pop Music" its not like Lady Gaga is Psychic TV, Chris and Cosey, Chombichrist or Lords of Acid. LOL.

I mean, I'm not upset about it, but I was surprised that the only "dark" songs on the whole album where the two singles . Not sure if I would call it "false advertisement", the aesthetic for the press tour so far did fit the two songs that we got. Maybe she'll change it for the rest of the singles, IDK .
