Poland Plan To Start Military Conscription For All Male Adults Amid Russia-Ukraine

Donald Tusk told parliament on Friday that if Russia took control of parts of Ukraine, then Poland would find itself in a “difficult geographical situation”.

He said: “We are preparing large-scale military training for every adult man in Poland. Our goal is to finalize the plan by year’s end to ensure a well-trained reserve force ready for potential threats. 

“If Ukraine loses the war, or if it accepts the terms of peace, armistice, or capitulation in such a way that weakens its sovereignty and makes it easier for Putin to gain control over Ukraine, then without a doubt—and we will all agree on this—Poland will find itself in a much more difficult geopolitical situation.” 

In an address dominated by security, Tusk also said that “Poland must pursue the most advanced capabilities, including nuclear and modern unconventional weapons. 

“This is a serious race - a race for security, not for war.” 

He also told the house that he had asked the Defense Ministry to initiate Poland's withdrawal from the Ottawa Convention and possibly the Dublin Convention, which ban the use of anti-personnel mines and cluster munitions, respectively, explaining that “faced with a threat Poland will resort to any means necessary.” 

The prime minister said everyone is aware of the seriousness of the situation, highlighting developments related to the Russia-Ukraine war, transatlantic ties and the situation in Europe. 

He said Poland had “many reasons to be very focused on security, on matters of war and peace,” adding that many voices in Europe and the U.S. were "leaning towards the Russian narrative” regarding the war, though he said this remained a “marginal” political position both in Poland and in the West. 

“There’s only one European shortcoming—unwillingness to take action, uncertainty and at times even cowardice,” he said. “Now it’s time to act. 

"Everyone in the EU, the US and Ukraine understands that Poland’s primary role is to bolster its border with Russia, not sending troops to Ukraine,” Tusk continued.

I understand Poland. That country has been invaded and taken over so many times throughout history by both Russia and Germany. I would also understand if Finland did the same.

30 nuclear weapons are more powerful than 300 000 men.

This is not gonna help against Russia's blackmail of 4500 nuclear weapons. Ukraine had more inhabitants than Poland and is nevertheless losing. Russia has 100 milliion more inhabitants than Poland. Poland was betrayed by UK and France during WW2, it is likely it will be betrayed again by the West. The West is not gonna risk Washington for Warsaw.

If Poland had nuclear weapons, it could save money by not having a large army because once you have nuclear weapons, you don't need a large army anymore. If I was a Polish resident, I would ask the government "Why are we drawn into a weak army? Why don't you develop nuclear weapons like Uk and France did?"

I support Poland defending itself. Not everyone will be fit for fighting but can contribute in other ways that doesn't involve risking their lives or killing. I guess we should have your line of thinking until Russia has invaded all of eastern Europe because screw defending yourself right? Get off my d*ck hunty

Where do we draw the line for greed and power? Looking at my own extended family.. it’s a miracle humans haven’t died out since we’re so hellbent on destroying each other. 

Back then we didn’t have the means to completely wipe out our enemies, but now we do.

I did not criticize you for saying Poland is allowed to defend itself, I criticized you for saying Poland should defend itself by forcing humans into war.

Finland and Sweden joining NATO was the best thing they could have done to deter a Russian invasion.

I know, I am glad my country joined but NATO is basically over at this point with the shenanigans from the US. It's Europe against USA, Russia and China (now that they are about to send troops to Russia). So yeah, Europe can't take all of them by themselves without proper defence.

No one is forcing anyone to kill… Poland is merely opting to defend itself from possible Russian aggression. Everyone sees what is happening. Poland is not declaring war and going on a mass murder spree in Russia.

Is Poland suppose to just not have any defense? No military? Why should any country have a military then.
