Quartz 12,524
Mayhem is such a vibe. However, why does she always insist on ending albums by really slowing them down by the end? It's like we could have ended it with a high. I listened to the album with closed eyes so that I can experience the soundscapes without distractions. By the time Blade of Grass came around, I was snoring literally, and I actually like the song :triggered: What do you guys think? Do you like the track sequencing? Inside, we are really made the same. 🕊 1
Jawline4dayz 334
This and Joanne? What other albums end in a ballad? 1
AsleepOnTheCeiling 6,271
"Member (can't react)" okay prison sentence! Sonically arranged to kind of groove into the slower music for consistency. I also think it's a statement to save Blade of Grass for the near end, and the song about dying happy together for dead last. Also, Babylon was the last album closer and it was a high. I believe ARTPOP completed on Applause.
INNA 3,686
Teeth, The Edge of Glory, Applause, Just Another Day, Babylon are all pretty upbeat. fragment-fragment--bul-uh...scab-uh..fragment-foot, bullet fragment foot bich! 8
AlvaroMU96 24
Well, basically, she has never done it, so saying she "always does this" is not true. You should delete the title then to stop this mayhem👄
IWantYourLove 1,407
I wouldn’t say she always ends on a ‘low’, but I get what you mean - like there’s usually no celebratory explosion the way there is when she opens an album, it’s like a little baby one in comparison sometimes edit: it’s still a ‘rare’ occurrence though, like on Joanne it was happy but not an explosion with JAD, and BTW and ARTPOP both finished with a BIG bang. The only ‘downer’ I can think of is this one, and the album actually ends on DWAS Edited March 7 by IWantYourLove
Bradley 59,023
So you're saying you like parties and have trouble accessing emotional depth.
NemoMyName 708
This album it's like a panic attack to me, it starts strong and very frantic, but slows down little by little.
Cavadour 2,349
Ending an album with a ballad, a slower or stripped down piece of music is an utter classic in any genre possible. It's like turning the car engine off at the end of a trip or landing the plane after a flight. That said, rules are also made to be transgressed... Late to the party but I got a diamond heart
Bronco 10,800
She's a major lover of older rock acts. And a lot of older rock bands used to put their big ballad/closer last. I think she's likely inspired by that. Plus ballads on a pop album generally do the weaker numbers, and in the streaming age you frontload as much as possible.

TheMontebello 402
Ah yes, the famously slow ballad, Applause. You like the fat girl I got in me 🍕
chathonnete 755
In Mayhem case it's definitly because DWAS was originally not planned for the album. Because the song is different from the album, they put it in the end and had to put slower songs next to it for it to blend.
