Fantina 3,299
Congrats to the winners, but.... 2024 was the year of horror. Don't get me wrong, I didn't expect Terrifier 3 to be nominated for Best Picture, but the least they could have done was award Demi. This was her moment. A career defining win that would leave a huge impact on the horror genre. Also, I had no idea Nosferatu was eligible for an award. Nosferatu, Dune 2 and The Substance should have walked away with at least 2 awards each. On the bright side, these 3 movies will be remembered for decades by fans, which is probably the highest form of success a movie could possibly achieve. Until then, this is Elvira saying unpleasant dreams.
chromaticainmyhead 6,479
I kinda wish they'd release rankings for who got listed as the runner up, third place and so on but I know it's not a race fan-tas-tique, chic, freak, slaaaay

StrawberryBlond 14,377
Just looked at the results and wow, they really struck out in ways I didn't expect. They actually gave the best song to El Mal. Granted, I've not heard the other songs but that has got to be one of the worst musical numbers I've ever heard. The fact it wasn't performed live, just like all the other songs from this "musical" gave the writing on the wall from the start and they still gave it the trophy. It kinda just goes to show that it can come down to voting for the one you recognise, as opposed to actually taking in the quality of the others. Zoe will forever have this as a bittersweet win for the rest of her career, it's sad when this kinda thing happens. Just as well it didn't win anymore, making it go down in history as one of the least successful nominated film, only winning 2 of its 13 nominations. And Mikey winning best actress and the entire film taking home 5 wins? I'm sorry, but that film was ridiculous and unrealistic. Acting wasn't bad but just servicable, definitely no Oscar winning acting here (I actually think the mother was the best actor, but no nods to her). To give the best actress to a newcomer is so rare, especially one whose only big win this awards season was a BAFTA. She could well have more to give in the future, but at the same time, I have the feeling she'll just fade into obscurity. This was the award that Demi had built all these years and the public wanted that win. I highly doubt Anora will be remembered and I'm still amazed that a film about a stripper did so well when that kinda topic usually means the Oscars don't want to give your movie a chance. They didn't give any time to Hustlers, what makes this movie so much better or different? At least Hustlers was based on a true story, so it was a lot more realistic. And such randomosity with the musical performances to cover for all the original songs not performed. So disrespectful to the nominees that deserved their moment, all because they wanted to save Emilia Perez from being embarrassed, which should've been the sign that its nominations should be rescinded. What a mess of a ceremony. I'm actually kinda glad Gaga didn't get nominated when she was likely to get snubbed again anyway. At least she didn't have to lose to subpart winners. Oscars are more out of touch than ever. They need an overhaul.

Have you seen Cronenberg's The Fly? Incredible movie, shares the same concept of the substance. Nothing is entirely new, you could say Anora is just a more realistic Pretty Woman.
