Tate McRae says comparisons to Britney are “flattering and scary”

The Canadian singer – who released her album ‘So Close To What‘ – has been likened to a string of 1990s and 2000s pop stars in recent years, including artists like Christina Aguilera and The Pussycat Dolls.

However, the most frequent has been Spears, with fans noticing similarities in the two artists’ vocal styles and choreography. Now, in a new interview with the Independent, McRae has shared her thoughts on being compared to the ‘Toxic’ singer.

“I find that flattering and scary. It’s such a crazy statement because no one can compare to Britney Spears. It’s like comparing someone to Michael Jackson!” she told the publication. “That’s the blueprint!”

The parallels between this and what people said about the Lady Gaga/Madonna comparisons two decades ago. And I'm not saying Tate is going to be like Gaga. But y'all

Rita is very generous with sharing her talent with up-and-coming artists, so I don't think it's out of the realm of possibility

Self-Titled/In The Zone Britney was my favorite Britney. Such a fun era in pop music so I am very happy the new generation can revisit that fun time in the early 00’s and also be inspired by it. 
 

I love pop acts that can dance and sing and do choreography all while giving looks. Britney did that. Xtina did that. Beyonce does it and so does Gaga. That’s why I love them. I was a massive Spice Girls fan and TLC fan too. 
 

No one will replace Britney just as Gaga did not replace Madonna. It will be interesting to see Tate progress and evolve in her career. She’s only 21 is already selling out arenas. Serve it sweetie!!! I will be cheering her on!!!
